The Dreieck - Large Delta

I've enjoyed a few FBD's (Foam Board Deltas) and was wanting to try a bigger one made from EPS foam. So here it is: the Dreieck.

I constructed the Dreieck from a piece of 1.5" EPS foam insulation and covered it with film. The leading edges and tips have been rounded. Elevons are 1/4" balsa.

Wing Span 55 in
Wing Area 1262 sq in
Weight 76.8 oz
Wing Loading 8.8 oz/sq ft
Motor: Tacon Bigfoot 25
Prop: JXF 13x6
Turnigy 4S3000, 48A, 700 watts

Here are three of my previous deltas:

Dreieck

The design is easily scalable to different sizes. I'll try to get flight video soon.

That looks good. Reminds me of my own red delta. Had similar dimensions to yours although my elevons were larger proportionally. I said "had" because it has since gone to foamie heaven after a fatal crash. Seeing yours makes me want to rebuild mine:

Nice plane, foamflyer. Looks like it would hold up to some wind and be a good FPV ship. Any chance of getting the dimensions of the prop slot itself? Did you add those motor slot fairings rather than cut them from the foam sheet?

Cool plane, slebetman. It's a shame it crashed, they do that sometimes .

Hi potshot,
The prop slot measures 14x6 inches BEFORE fairings. The fairings were hot-wired and added after, this was easier than carving them in the wing. The finished prop slot is 2.5 inches wide.

I think the Dreieck would do well in the wind due to the low frontal area, but not so good with a crosswind. It was maidened in a 10-15 mph crosswind and was hard to handle. Ended up colapsing the nosegear, easy fix.
