sweet! and put some money back in the pocket too lol. the airpower units i have area about the same size as those robarts, and lift the long leg with tire as well as the stock heavy strut and alum wheel at only 80psi.boom. plus the units are super light feeling. using a large tank will also help, as the extra volume even at the same psi will have more power.

Well looking at all the choices out there I really like the spring down feture of a few I see. With the spring downs there is only one air line going to the retract instead of two, a simple one way air valve with two lines instead of four and if there is a lose of pressure the gear come down.

Here is my theory, Due to me flying off of smooth paved or dry lake bed surfaces and this T-38 landing like a feather I think I may be able to get away with the Spring Air 400 series. They are all metal, take a 1/2" strut, are 1 3/8" deep so they will fit, and cost $250 less than the electrics. I like em'

I will think on it another day or so and order something up.


A side note on weight rating: When I watch videos of jet meets I sure do see allot of slam down to the runway hard landings on those videos. Some of those guys really plant that jet on tera ferma pretty hard. I wonder when a gear manufacturer puts a weight rating of say 25 pounds on their gear if they do so knowing it's going to get abused and are cautious with the number they put on it.

They need fine print saying, 25 pounds except for falcon5 and corsair nuts feather landing T-38 then they are good for 40 pounds.

Well I just talked with the nice folks at Spring Air and I went with the series 400. I told him the plane it's going in and he said his official weight rating is 35 pounds but he has customers putting them in 40+ pound airplanes. With one customer putting them in a 50 pound bomber and they are working great.

As a bonus he gave me a break on the web site price..can't beat that...


I got the authorization # to send back the electric retracts and will send those back today. So with the retract issue taken care of it's on to the other little items I want to take care of on the T-38 to get her set up sweeet!!

because of the current working conditions, you guys wont be getting any pics until its just about done. nothing i can do about that.

youll just have to rely on my word lol....sorry, its not worth much haha.

im curently working on the wings flight controls along with the rudder. within the next couple weeks ill have the flying surfaces glassed, then its back to the fuse.

Man I go away for a week or so and come back to check he thread and find out that you have already maidened her. Very masterful flying and real looking bird. I wish my building skills were half as good as yours. Great job on the greaser of a landing. Congrates on the sucsessful flight.

Not at the Jet Masters. Those guys put their big jets down like feathers. But I did have to laugh when I saw your post. When I was in flight training, if I put one down hard, my instructor accused me of making a "carrier landing." :-)
