Good job, Pat. This one might be so ugly, it's cute!

Pilatuspc12 is right. Ugly airplanes always make beautiful models. Nice build Pat, hopefully we'll get to see the finished model, unlike the Airtractor build. (hint, hint)

Pat.. You are going to love flying that thing. I still have my 7.5 ft that I built years ago. A great joy to fly.

I believe Randy built the 7 1/2 foot Ag Cat from Floyd Fitzgerald's plans.
Randy's plane is awesome from the pics I've seen on his website.

Randy- Did you ever get the smoke / spray bars working?

I have a copy of Floyd's plan also. Just started on the tail feathers for it this past Sunday.
Looking forward to Pat's as a plane to take to the field when I don't feel like the big heavy version. LOL And Pat's design will probably be finished way before the big one!

John, The AG Cat is a brand new design from the ground up. The plans are original, not a re-work from an earlier design. The Short Kit, which will include plans, laser cut parts, and vac-formed radial engine will be released for sale as soon as the p-type has been flown and trimmed.

Fitting the Aileron Servos and Wiring

The aileron servos were glued into the wings with silicone. The extension leads I had were too long, so they were cut down to eliminate the excess wire from wadding up in the wings when they're plugged in.

Covering is Underway and Progressing Nicely

Most of the cover is on. Still need to do the fuselage bottom. Then will get the trim ordered and go to work on the engine details.

It's a fine fiddly business.

Pat,
When you install your battery tray and mount on this build, could you please include a few detail shots. I am near the point of installing the battery on my Rapide and I would like to see your standard technique for battery mounting so that I can "borrow" it.
As usual beautiful job of covering and elegant servo wiring solution for upper wing center section (post #39)
Thanks,

Red, I never did finish the spray bars, they hang in the garage.. I couldn
t bring myself to cut the covering up to make mounts for the tubes.

Smoke still looks good enough for now. If I ever tear it up and have to do repairs I will make mounts for the tubes.

Now that the Hillidays are Behind Us, it's Time to get Back to It

The week between Christmas and New Years was a bit hectic, but I was able to sneak in a bit of bench time and make a bit of progress.

Once the fuselage was covered, the next step was to get the canopy assembly in place. The sub-frame was glued in place, then the upper foam block was glued in place and shaped.

The rear side fairings and window frames were made up from File folder paper next. The fairings were glued in place first, then the windows glued to the inside of the frames, and those assemblies glued in place to complete the canopy assembly. All of the fairing and window frame patterns will be provided on the plans, so your's will go much quicker then this one did.

Rigging the Wings

The cabane struts were glued into the fuselage mount blocks, then the wings were plugged in and set up and the center section glued in place. The c-section was tacked in place with a drop of thin CYa, then secured with a small drop of 5 minute epoxy at all four points.

Once the glue was cured, the wings were removed and the top of the C-Section covered and the servo lead run into the fuselage. And wile the wings were off, the trim was added using stock vinyl sheet from Callie graphics.

Finally, the wings were put back on and the Interplane Struts re-fitted and glued in place and the rigging added. Once that was done, the tail section was aligned and glued in place.

Painting the Components

Now that all the rigging is done and the canopy, struts, tail blocks and other small parts are in place, all those items were painted using Model Master Acryl.
