Thanks guys!

Though with the small prop it is a pussycat and easy to launch.

It has the ubiquitous hotliner X Plane powertrain:
Mega 16/35/1
KPG25 5.2:1
RFM 12.8x13 and then working up to 16x17 Slims (peaks at 205amps on these blades according to Yuri and tricky to launch from what I see of the trail of destroyed X Planes on the main thread.)
ICE Lite 100
5 cell Gen Ace 2200 30C
CC 10amp BEC

Nice to hear about the X, does the Gens Ace 30C fit inside the X without having to take out those alu plates inside ?

To fit the 30C's I had to trim the sides of the aluminium plates that are moulded into the fuselage a few mm each side. I just used a cutting wheel in my Dremel to do so and cleaned it up with a file.

I think it is only the 60C's that the battery side plates have to be removed.

ok, thanks, my 55C also needed to get that aluplate removed.. Im asking because Ive noticed on my pack after removing those plates, that there is a slight puffing, didnt noticed it at first, I cant tell if its under my heatshrink or it is the inside the cells, sure feels like inside the cellsm not much but it is there.... dont know if its going to make some differance in performance, never had them charged yet.... I was very carefull when removing those plates, didnt get any hole or something like that, so thats why I wont mess with this again, thats why I am searching for packs that fit without that surgery..

I wouldn't worry too much. I'd just use them and see how they go. I'm sure they are OK provided you are storing them between 3.7 and 4.0 volts per cell.

I wonder how a 16/35/1 coupled to the mega 6.1 box would do on 5S. It might be a plugNplay F5D setup. Unlike the kontronic 5.2/4.2s the pinion on the mega box is CNC'd as part of the shaft (but there is no removing the box to switch it for direct drive). So no more busted off loctite joints... 6.1 ratio should keep the amp draw much more ESC/Battery friendly too

Dont think so, Im assuming its the same as the 16/25/F5J 6.1 gearbox that is listed as 28mm

A few more details listed at the bottom of the news page:

MEGA F5-J 2kW and planet gearbox 6:1
New brushless electric motor with planet gearbox for competition hotliners with 4S, propeller up to 17“. Power unit diameter 28mm, output shaft diameter 6mm. Overall weight 200g.

However on the bottom of the 16/35 page they talk about:" MEGA 16/35/x Assembled with planetary gearbox 6:1 3 kW" for the same weight. All for about 205 Euros if you go to the shopping cart.

Reliable Sports Set Ups

Doug's been busy with his Swist finding reliable setups since the mishap with the geared 16/35/1 and ICE Lite. (Post 219 above)

He has found 16-35-1.5RE, KPG 5.2:1 ,TP 2700MAH 65C 5S and GM 10X23 to be fine. The kV of the motor is 2500rpm giving an effective kV of 480rpm/volt compared to the 692 rpm/volt for the similar geared 16/35/1.

Along with the same setup using a taller 4.2:1 ratio or effective kV of 595rpm/volt has also been found to be OK with temperatures too.
