Thanks guys,

It will be interesting to see how the kp fan copes with 14" of ducting. On 2s the model scoots across the carpet.

The 40mm FJ-4 project was put on hold. The moulds turned out well but I'm struggling to get a decent moulding from them. It'll have to wait now for warmer weather.............it is too cold in the shed.

Indeed, it just screams: "build me; build me". Wonder why it is so little modelled?

This is one of my favorite models also! I was thinking of converting the T-28 wing for mine since they are very close in outline. This fury shares the wing design of its piston powered cousin the Mustang. The actual plane used a unique nose wheel in that it would "kneel" down for stowage on board and aircraft carrier since the wings don't fold like other navy jets. I always thought it looked funky with the wheel folded. You willl usually see these with tape over the gun barrel ports in photos because pilots complained of the noise they made while flying!
Great Job Steve, you really captured the look of the plane. I had to check the photos and it's really very good.
Good luck on your model.

Thanks Guys,

I read that the FJ-1 engine life was way too short and the aircraft was soon outclassed by swept-wing designs.

The wing is a 'Jedelski' wing. Using contest-grade balsa the 'Jedelski' wing can be built very light and accurate. With a typical WW2 wing shape there is washout automatically built in.

Flew the FJ-1 today unpainted........The maiden and the 2nd flights were uncontrollable due to the Fury being tail-heavy. The 3rd flight had things under control, the model was quite fast and manoeverable and looked nice in the air. The kp24 on 2s had plenty of power to handle a little wind.

Now there's a crumpled nose to repair before painting

The Cg had me completely flummoxed? For controllable flight the model has to balance on the wing leading-edge (at the tips)............. I wonder if the wing LEX's and the long nose pushes the cg further forward than one might imagine?

I used to have troubles with my micro edfs untill I started placing my fans as close to the trailing edge of the wing as possible, and not so far rearward. Now it's easier to balance with the battery.
