no there is a bead that runs down the starboard side of the plane from under the TE of the wing about half way down looks like trim, molding a bead of some kind I don't know what it does but they don't put things on war birds for looks!

Thanks guys that must be what it was for, I guessing because of the hatch in that section it was enough to weaken the plywood skin. Rob thanks for telling me about the metal strip but I don't see it on my plans. I went ahead and mix some epoxy w/ microballoons and spread a coat to level the top section of the FUSE I was going to put the wings in w/ packing tape covered w/ p-jelly at the root end but as I started to clamp them in place I said NO it will get glued for good because of how I made it w/ the center keel there is no way to pry it up so I'll just let it go and sand and then cover the rest of the gap w/ flashing of some kind.

well today I didn't get to much done just test fit the wings and after a little sanding they went right in. Next on the list is to sand and seal the rest of the FUSE and complete the tail wheel assembly and then mount the STAB and VIRT FIN.
befor moving on to the FLAPS and AILERONS then lights and rotery system for the AILERONS. But the good news is that we bought a new desk top PC so now I don't have to fight to get on line(I should have done this a long time ago) So now I just need to place an order for some music wire and lights. And some body told me that traplet had a site in the USA but I can't remember who or witch site any help here would be nice, that way I can order my cowls, canopy etc. I'm going to try and make the landing gear just like Brian Taylor has them on the plans but a bit beefer in places. that's about it for now. |

Not at all, I got the spinners and canopy set. The cowlings did not suit my purposes with the electric conversion but the canopies are cleanly moulded and the spinners are nice and light as well but I might be concerned if you plan to use an electric starter on them.

Thanks PeterF I knew who you were.... that's what I had thought I did look at some other suppliers and they don't have the correct shape, so I guess your stuck w/ Traplet for at least the spinners! |

Alright I've been taking a break from building for a few days since I have been building almost every day for over a year on three different aircraft and I still have a life out side RC planes! but I have been doing some research on this plane the "Mossie" that I am modeling. The pilot was Sir John William Maxwell "Max" Aitken . He was the Group captain, station commander at Banff Scotland and leader of the Banff strike wing. He had joined the NO. 601 sq. RAuxAF in 1935 and flew several other types of aircraft during his career and was credited with 16 German kills. His mark VI DeHavilland mosquito serial code was HR366 and was with the NO.235 sq. and had the burgundy letters MA - 01painted on his plane and also had burgundy nose cones. This is all that I have found so far along with two photos of this ace and his plane.

That bit of history always helps with references for paint. Also can make it a bit more personal. I actually found a relative who was an aircraft mechanic on the USS Bennington in WWII. WHile not directly related its still a neat connection.
