Thanks Don ... you will like yours.

I still think that the dolly is a very cool setup, but the fixed gear works very reliably every time on takeoff and landing. And the wingtips don't get scraped. I think I will keep it the way it is for a while ...

I agree, the fixed gear with the small wheels really doesn't detract from the appearance of the aircraft and I'm sure it's not even noticed in the air.
also, it's reliable so, I will go that route as well. If we had a nice grass strip to land on
I might think more along the lines of the dolly. What size wheels did you use?

I used some wheels I already had lying around, they must be 1.5 inches diameter or so? They have a strong metal hub and a foam tire ... bring spare wheels!

They are the so-called MPI aluminum wheels, and come in all sorts of different sizes

Good Morning Herb,
Hey, thanks for the info on the wheels and tires, I'll pick some up.
I see they have a set of bushings as well, that will be helpful.

Thanks for the web site for rcdude, there's a wealth of items on the site that
I've tried to find at different times and couldn't.
thanks again !

You can probably find those wheels at other places as well, my LHS shop has them .. I never shopped at rcdude so don't know anything about them.

Does anyone know what is the covering on the wings? I have a roll of olive drab Monkote and a roll of Ultracote and neither of these matches.
Here’s a shot of my 163 powered with a 65 pound thrust rocket motor.

That looks like fun !

I have no idea what chinese monokote that is, but it takes paint very well. You might want to get some cans of Tamiya acrylic matt, or airbrus the Tamiya water based acrylics. That's what I did and it worked well.

Hey Guys,
Today was the maiden flight for my 163 !
Everything went very well, just needed a little more reflex but, no problem.
Thanks Herb for all the info on set up, glad to know and learn from others
experience. Herb, your right, I LIKE IT !!! now I can get on to more scale
additions on the airplane, graphics, panel lines and such.

Excellent, I told you you'd like it !!

I does fly remarkably well, and it is a pleasure to look at !

I've epoxied a thin (5mm wide or so) long aluminum plate under the keel ahead of the LG to reduce the scraping on landing (it scrapes a lot more with those tiny wheels).

Funny you should mention that, I found that out today.
I was thinking the same thing about the skid plate and aluminum would work well.

Hey Don,

I used some nice aluminum rails that a friend that works for an aerospace contractor gave me ... I have to ask him for more !

Here's a couple of pics, installed but without any paint touchup.

Good Morning Herb,
I just installed a strip of brass 1/4" wide and 1/16" thick on mine
just in front of the landing gear. I used JB quick for an adhesive.
I normally use Hysol but, either works well. nice to have friends in the business,
I miss my machine shop at NPS but not the admin.

Hey Herb,
I've been working on my graphics and found that a Sharpie ultra fine works
really well, the fine is Ok for heaver lines but is harder to control on the fine lines.
I really don't know much about how to do the weathering, I don't have an airbrush
but, at least I can get the panel lines and inspection panels done.
