Did some more testing yesterday, seems that my Sky lipo 5s/40c/5000mah
is getting better/stronger, 10 cycles now, tested with What's Up meter and
got 93 amps@1650 watts (batt just off charger) , motor limit is 140amps
and 1800 watts, so in still good!!, ran at 1/2 power for 1 minute, tested again
86A/1470W, so letting the battery rest for a while of the charger will be good
for 100 amp/esc, that 93 amp pull was scary while holding plane.
The thing I noticed after the run was that my esc was getting fairly hot,
my battery and motor where barely warm!!, of course this is a cheap esc,
I know it will be better in flight, not wanting to take any risk, I decided on
installing a heatshink, actually installed 2(Radio Shack # 276-1368) with
a thermal adhesive pad(R/S), tested today, much better, even after 4 min
at 1/2 power it was noticeable cooler.
BTW the thermal pad won't hold the heatshink on when hot, you must
glue around the edge, I zip tied mine in place.
Planning to do a lot of flying on th ME tomm, Later, Allen
PIc of my setup, Yes there's a rudder gyro in there, only used for takeoff's
in gain mode, off in flight, works great!!.

12x8, I estimate top speed aprox. 120 mph, the reason I went with the
gyro is that I'm using servo saver springs on rudder pushrod, this makes
steering a little sluggish to react to input, I also fly off a grass field, wich is
bumpy in some areas, the springs keep the servo from stripping/breaking
gears on the belly landings, as sometimes the plane slides sideways a
little, making the tail wheel vulnerable to side loads, I use a metal gear
high speed/torque digital servo, but still there is a lot abuse on it on the
With the gyro, I taxi out, line up with center of runway and stop, then I
arm the gyro in gain mode, hold up full up elevator, apply power slowly
and the plane goes straight untill it breaks ground with little or no rudder
input, the gyro is switched off and all rate switches go to low, landings
are on high rate with gyro off.
I might try a 11x10 later if I feel the need for more speed

Picked up fuselage from painter, I did a lot of the prep work, sanded most
of the original paint and primed grey, he did the final sanding and fixed any
pinholes, etc, followed by light primer coat and single stage urethane red,
I had color matched to my Ultracote covered parts, vert good match IMO!!.
I weighted the empty airframe (wing joiner, canopy, cowling), the battery
tray and all gear monting provisions were done prior to paint. There is no
electronics, motor, servos, pushrods, etc. I think I can make my target
weight of 8 lbs(128 oz).
Scale showed 4.25 lbs(68 oz), that leaves 3.75 lbs(60 oz) for gear
I think I'm good. I'll post details on final setup later.

Well the graphics cutter at work has software problems ,
so a few email's to callie and they are on the way
The plane is almost ready, checked weight right at 7 lbs/14 oz ,RTF,
I don't think graphics will weigh much, so I'll be good. My other komet
is at 7.5 lbs on 5s/93 amps/1650 watts, the red one will be 8 lbs on
6s/65 amps/1650 watts, should get similar speed and flght times.
