Thanks Dean for the dates,

Having a weekend day on both sides of the contest made it possible to attend last year on only one week's vacation but having the dates this far in advance is a big help for planning, so we'll see whether I can make it or not.

Crew Race Day

Dean, your Wednesday "Crew Race" is a stroke of brilliance!

At Cal Valley last year, we discussed the difficulty of introducing new pilots to Cross Country without jeopardizing a team's effectiveness in the competition.

What a great solution. A mini contest within the contest. A day set aside just for the crews. Very thoughtful!

Can I lay claim to the RV compound again this year?

Count me in!

Airlines reservations made today. It was something to do to get my mind off of the outside temperature this morning - 6 degrees!

Yes, the Ascendant XC-V will attend!

I'm constructing the next version now. Since I'll be flying out to the left coast to Join Dave, I'll ship the Ascendant XC freight to Dean. I have to work out the details on the freight shipping.

Take Care,
John

John,
Looking forward to seeing you and your team again.
Remember I live near Medford Or. So that is where shipments should be made.
Hope you can arrive early in the week to start the fun with us.

Regards Dean

Dean,

Dave and I are planning to get up to Montague on the 11th. I'll have a new Ascendant XC to play with (under construction now -- build thread to start soon).

Our third team member, Tom Broeski, cannot make it this year. We're trying to find a replacement out here but have not had any luck so far. We may be advertising for someone to join us from out there. If they were and LSF-II, or higher, that would be icing on the cake!

Take Care,
John

Tech session - any interest in having some?

Last year we had several technical sessions that were well received.
I thought it might be a good idea to do it again this year if there is some interest.

I've got a couple of topics that might be of interest.

1) What is Winscore?
John Ellias and I would like to put together a presentation on what is Winscore, how it works, and what data you can analyze from it.

2) The new telemetry systems - show and tell
A couple of pilots, Dudley and Dave, who have written threads here, stating what they are developing and using. I would hope they would like to show us what they have and how it is being used.
Matt Brady and I have a new system that we can show.
There maybe others.

Is this something you would like to see?

Is there other topics you would like to discuss?

Let's open it up.

Allowable Loggers for GPS Scoring

We are no longer limited to using only the "Skytrace" GPS loggers, although they are still the preferred logger. Any GPS logger may be used that is capable of logging the entire flight and outputting the logged data in an “IGC” type format or in a format that allows for conversion to an “IGC” format. They must also be capable of outputting the data to the scoring computer thru a USB port. Most loggers are capable of these requirements.

I would recommend using a second backup logger, just in case of a problem with the primary logger. They are available for $50 or less.

Deadline for T shirts is not far away.
At this point no entries.
Should we skip the T's ? Probably not as I see them at every glider event I go to.
Please help me out.

I'll be happy to do Show-n-Tell on my telemetry stuff and eager to see what others are doing.
