Thanks to all for the great plans.... I'm building a hammy26 but i would love some dimensions for servo locations. Even some better quality pics, I can't really see much on Potshot's cause picture resolution is so low can't zoom in. Maybe you could even put them on the plans. Any help would be great ill post pics when its done and try to get some video when it flies. Im going to try with HK FC28-22 brushless 1200kv motor, 25amp plush esc, gws 8040 prop, 1300 3s, 3 9g great planes servos. I fly an ultra micro t28 now but this will be my first "bigger" 3d plane so i'm kinda winging.

Hope this picture helps, RCtastic. I'm giving this plane a break during the indoor season and using the rudder and elevator servos elsewhere for a while.

The center of the aileron servo (and the CG) is 5 1/2" from the front edge of the fuse (not including the foam "firewall"). The leading edge of the large square hole in front of it is 4" from the front edge of the fuse. I had the rudder and elevator servos stacked in that hole, facing opposite ways. The hole is sized for the two servos I have, so make yours accordingly The small rectangular hole in front is just a pass through. The black band is a velcro strap for holding the battery in.

I should caution you, as mentioned earlier in the thread, that this version is pretty heavy. I built it that way to handle wind, but with the power plant and battery I used it surely isn't anything close to a 3D machine. My heavy version served it's purpose, nicely handling the breeze at Muncie one afternoon after the Nats guys were done.

I'm building another version from FFF without skins for the indoor season. If you really wanted a 3D machine, I'd say to build it from 3mm Depron with CF reinforcement and doublers as you see fit. I also recommend adding an inch or more between the LE of the wing and the front of the fuse to give more room for balancing with smaller batteries.

RCtastic, Sounds like what you have should work but you might want to go with a lighter battery. If you land a little hard the weight of a 1300 can cause damage to an airframe. I fly most of my foamies with a 3 cell 800. Performance is much better by not dragging a heavy battery around.

I'm looking for the same type of plane as potshot, something that can fly in some wind but with some increased capabilities to move my skills along a bit. I hope this will fit the bill, plus the design is too easy not to try. I hear you about the battery weight, I may just pick up something smaller so I have it ready when I'm done. I have 2 x 3s 800's from a blade CP I dont/can't fly, but they have been sitting for some time so I'm not sure how they will work.
Here are some pics of the almost finished parts, weight of these parts (still missing cf rod on fuse bottom, add a few g's) is 190g. I used dollar store 5mm foam, it seems lighter (and is cheaper) than other 5mm, but with the patterned duct tape skin its very rigid. I couldn't find the reinforced packing tape.

My foamboard was from Wal-Mart and I left the paper on in addition to applying packing tape for color. Yours should be significantly lighter, and the smaller battery should work out well.

anyone have any suggestions about where to get that magic foam rubber for the motor mount? what was it originally from? I've been looking but the only thing I can find that seems close is the foam interlocking flooring mats that you sometimes see in bright colours for kids play area at "Home Deathspot" etc. I got my electronics in the mail yesterday and Im hoping to get her in the air ASAP but that foam seems like a key component. Any help is much appreciated.

I got mine from Hammydude. I think he said his wife got it at some unidentified art supply store, . The only problem I have with it is that it is thick and heavy, though in my original application the weight was not an issue

IMHO, it would be a good idea to come up with some kind of substitute. I think the floor mat foam you mentioned might work or maybe even some 9mm EPP. The trick seems to be foam that will not crush when you tighten the wire ties but is flexible enough to cushion the worst shocks. Let us know what you come up with. I'd want something lighter than the original foam for my indoor version.

In an attempt to add to this old thread, I did build and fly my plane a few times, it is very heavy. After a bit of a break from scratch building im going to make a second lighter version, when I do I will try to post complete details of both.

Good news! Do you have any pictures of the completed first one? Otherwise we'll have to wait patiently for the new one.

If you are building from the plans here, the CG is 7.17 from the front edge of the fuse. Let's say between 7 and 7.25.
