Frog build off TOMTITX3

After a lot of thought I have elected to build the Tomtit 3 times the plan size and have the span 54".This way I won't have to risk going to Staples and getting the wrong size print. What I plan to do is get the dividers and some of the other drafting tools out and draw them out.I'll post photos as I go through the drafting so those who may have wondered how to go about it can follow along.

Hi Rabidrue; glad to hear that your Tom Tit is getting started, I'll post a link to this in the first post of the build off thread. Be watching with interest, if it goes as well as my 2x one you'll be well pleased. BTW mine is slated for publication in Quiet and Electric Flight International, don't know just when but not likely to be before Feb/March issue as I only finished the proper plan for them 2 weeks ago.

Morning Sundancer,I'll be starting the plans as I finish the dawg covering.I don't know how proper they will be as my drafting skills are rusty at best.I should be able to at least show any of the folks who arn't sure how to go about it how to produce a working drawing,so they don't need to run to the copy shop.

Go to it Rabidrue, my 2X tom Tit building plan was drawn with very minimal equipment - a 1 metre steel ruler, set square, protractor, bendy french curve and several sharp pencils. Mind you, when I came to draw up the "proper" plan after selling it to the magazine, I had to break out the drawing board and drafting machine that had been packed up in the basement since we moved here in 2006! It's surprising how little you really need to build from, the trouble is when someone else wants to build it!

Shame! Can't the guests hang their own doors?

So where's the ready to fly pictures already? You've HAD A WHOLE THREE DAYS ! ! ! !

It'll be a bit of work to adapt the structure but it should prove to be a pretty slick model. All the best with the design work phase.

I have one more door to fit and a bit more trim then I can get started. The wife said the color was off between the new doors and the doorframes so I ended replaceing the trim as well as the base boards in the liveing room. The good news is I can mill all the moulding stock myself, the down side is it took all weekend.

George where is the C/G on the 2x tom?A bit ahead of the main spar on the top wing?I thought I might do a rough weight and balance figure while some more stain drys.

Hi Rab, it is just on the top wing main spar with the 850 2S I normally use. I've also flown it with a 1300 2S which brings it forward a bit, and it doesn't seem to fly much differently. Doesn't seem to be hyper critical - big tailplane.

Thank you much, with the batteries I have and the motor that should let me use a sheet tailplane and save some build time.

There will be a hold for a few more days as I am on the rehab crew. Some of the guys lost most of thier air craft in the flooding this summer so a few of us are remanning some old planes to donate.
