All I've seen on the diydrones site /forum is that the next release will occur in February but this may only be speculation as it wasn't an official announcement.

They mentioned that they've got them in stock and that they were testing them and that the 6-8 week lead time was going to be mostly due to the initial demand for them. Still, since my order I've received 2 emails from them but neither of the emails had any shipping information.

At least that's how I understand the situation.

A man with too many toys
With the lower price, smaller size, and improved performance this is probably going to be the one to get on 2013. It also flies anything so I can see why the demand is very high. As ling as I get it for spring flying I will be happy.

Those were my thoughts as well. It's winter here so all I'm hoping is that I get it in time to test it out and play with it before spring comes!

Agree. The size looks really good compared to the previous version.

I'd like to see the next version get even smaller. I think it's possible if they do like the Nano and put components on both sides of the board. Looks like the atmel chip could go on the bottom and the GPS put in its place and such.

Wondering how well that grouped 12 pin sensor shield socket is going to keep vibrations away form the sensors. Nothing a little hot glue on the corners can't fix if its a problem though.

Lift is cheap - Drag sucks

Clarification - It is described as 'A' board but the photos show two boards. So is this a complete system for $199 or a mother board that supports other components?

Sorry, but I am not familiar with these products.

Tom, I think it's safe to say both hardware and firmware are still under heavy development at diydrones. After testing all their hardware and a bunch of supposed to be stable firmware versions, I have decided to go into a wait and see mode. (I am however impressed by their progress).

Agree, (I have one in order). But, any "production ready" firmware in existence?

I think you may find the latest Arducopter firmware supports the new board - whether it is fully tested I know not.

For $199 you get a complete system. You get a mother board and most sensors.

Not sure if it's just the mother board part that they will ship to you latter due to the current demand, but for $200 you get both boards eventually which is the assembled kit.

From the DIYDrones site:

"The board itself is our first four-layer design and is smaller than APM 1.0 (believe it or not itís just 2.6 x 1.6 inches, even smaller than the UDB) and this includes four mounting holes and rounded edges to give a nicer look and feel! Of course itís lead free and ROHS complaint."

They don't mention the measurements of the mounting holes but here's the link:

What GPS is going to be on this board? Looks like weaker MediaTek MT3329 GPS 10Hz.

Will there be a way to use a more powerfull GPS like the GS407 U-Blox5 GPS 4Hz (New Antenna & Free uBlox Adapter Basic)?

Never mind looks like the answer is already here.

"...the daughter board will come in four flavors: GPS+MAG+SD, GPS+SD, MAG+SD and SD. For example if you want to attach only the magnetometer (Compass) externally you just buy the option GPS+SD."

Maybe they could offer one more daughter board option... Powerful GPS+ MAG+SD
