I just used the TLAR method for CG... My 1500 mAh pack showed up today, hopefully I'll be able to try it out on Saturday.

edit: with the 1500 mAh pack, CG is maybe 1/4" ahead of the servo wires.

Cool, thanks. APC makes a 5.1x4.5. My prop was way out of balance too, so I just sorted it out with a piece of heli blade balancing tape.

I balanced mine exactly on the wing servo wires and have no reason to change it.
Slope soaring is a bit of a challenge when gusty.
Thermalling for over an hour still had plenty juice in battery for probably another hour.

OK! I also plan to use mine for mostly power off soaring, will balance on the servo wires then.

I just got back from flying. It handled much better with the 1500 than with the 1300. Windy again today, but it did fine. Did a little thermaling and some FPV. Three flights, about 20 minutes apiece. Each took out about half of the pack. Much smoother with the prop balanced. I wonder how a 5x5 folding prop would do.

The CG for this plane is 45mm from LE. This was confirmed to me by BridgeSky.

Excellent! Thanks for checking, I knew that the "15mm" printed in the manual couldn't be right.

Does anyone know if bridgesky sells replacement parts for this plane? I'm in need of a new vtail.

Alternatively, if anyone built it up as a conventional tail and doesn't need their vtail parts...

I assembled mine with the V-tails also, so have the unused spare horizontal stab, I'd venture that virtually everyone uses the V-tail.

I figured it was worth a shot

I crashed while flying FPV and smashed the nose in. I'll have to cut it back, make a new firewall, and laminate a new nose. I'll have to put the conventional tail on.

edit: the ballast slugs are 20g apiece, 40g total. That should let me go from a 1500 mAh pack to a 2200.

If you contact BridgeSky, they will either sell you the part(s) or refer you to a seller nearby. They are very helpfull and if you ask nice enough they may even just send it to you (just praise thier product)

I wound up rebuilding the nose with some scrap foam, a couple of CF rods, and some 1/16" plywood. Everything from the canopy magnets forward had to be replaced. It looks like a boat and will probably fly like one, but it will fly again. The bay in the front is now a little roomier; I figured without the 40g of ballast, I could afford to make it a bit bigger. 1800 and 2200 packs are on the way. With the correct CG as mentioned previously, it should balance on the spar.

I took the opportunity to replace all the servos with hxt900s, and reworked the tail with dubro .047 pushrods. They're much stiffer and don't flex like the stock ones did.

I removed some of the stock decals by applying painters tape to them and yanking them off. I'm planning on putting some high visibility stripes on the undersides of the wing with some monokote trim sheets.
