Firmwareupdate.zip is just ST's 'flash loader' app. So firmware should be in the clear.
However actual firmware file is nowhere to be found, but I guess whenever they post it, should be easy to see who they ripped it from.

Actually, instruction is confusing, and says nothing about software and almost nothing about hardware.

More over, provided program is not in english (according to picture in instruction), and i can't start it on my XP'32bit. No errors or screens, just nothing happens.
Just tried in a XP32Bits and it crashes right away.

1. Computer Setting
The FF(Free Flight Controller,Below same)board default setting is "X mode"+Start from static,10.8V below volatge alarm enable,if you need change some setting, should use the Upper machine and software to make some setting you want.
first Connect the 3S battery to FFby JST connector, must "+" positive pole of battery,"-"nagetive pole of battery, then the green led on,link the FF by the rainbow cable and usb abaptor board(make sure the swith on the adaptor board is near mini USB connector side)
Install the USB Driver,(if your OS is win7 may not need the driver),then find the COMx (here is COM4) in "device manager" ,then install upper machine software on your computer,Run the software, like below

then config right serial Port,(here is Com4 for us),then Click Open, you will connect the software to the FF,and now you can make right config on the Board

2. Hardware installation

“X” mode

“+” Mode

And we will find “X” mode and “+” mode is the same installation in the Coptor ,the only different is Mode config of FF on software.

Important Note: Instruction for Use: as it may be dangerous when the aircraft is in the debugging process, please make sure the propeller is unloaded when it is in the debugging process.
Installation Method:
According to the map tips, install the FF on the aircraft (the aircraft head orientation should be consistent with Y direction on the fly control board), connect 5 lines between the receiver and Fly control board input channels( black line is the cathode”-” near the board edge, the red line is 5V, the white line is a signal line ), confirmate before connecting on the power line (red thick line to 3S Battery anode”+”, black thick line to 3S battery cathode “-”). At the same time set the remote control 1-4th channel to reverse output. After confirming again each wiring, turn on the remote controller power supply firstly and then the fly control board main power supply,at this time, the blue light is normally on,the red light flashes 3 times, the buzzer rings once.

3.Radio Controller Joystick Range Calibration
Please make sure the propeller is unloaded before you begin to calibrate the remote control joystick range.
Firstly turn on the remote control power supply and adjust the joysticks to intermediate positions, turn the power on and then switch the 5th channel on,at this time the green light on the fly control board is normally on(that means it is loading to calibration mode). Swing the joystick to all direction (getting joystick range), lastly adjust the 3th channel(Throttle) to the maximum position( Note: It is the only way the processor can record the maximum and minimum positions for each joystick, and calibration is valid). Finally switch off the 5th channel, at this time the green light turn off, the calibration process finished.

4.Aircraft start and extinguish steps
Start steps:
Firstly turn on the remote power supply before the fly control board is electrified.Do not swing the aircraft during the process ( 2 seconds is the fly control board self calibration process ). Adjust the 3th channel (Throttle) to the maximum position, then turn the 4th channel joystick to the left end (at this time the green flash once), turn the 4th channel joystick to the right end (at this time the green flash again),Finally adjust the 3th channel joystick to the minimum position meanwhile turn the 4th channel joystick to the right end (light flash once),the motor starts.
Extinguish steps:
In the state of motor starting, adjust the 3th channel joystick to the minimum position, meanwhile turn the 4th channel joystick to the left end,the motor stops, start the motor again you just need adjust the 3th to the minimum position, meanwhile turn the 4th channel joystick to the right end.
If the motor stops accidently, just extinguish and start operation are needed, you have no need to switch off the fly control board power supply.
