Mini-HowTo

My "Elcheapo Home Depot" basswood and ply frame. ECHD for short.

I wanted to change the motors on "Quadzilla" but unfortunately I had put the motor mounts on with Shoo Goo so well I had to destroy it
Anyways, here is the beginnings of another elcheapo wooden frame. It's basically 5/8" square rods, 13" long. Glued to a 6" square ply base with Elmers Carpenter glue.
Here is it's humble beginnings. I will post photos through each step. I leave enough space through the center to pass all the wires. I build all my frames on a nice flat section of glass from an old desk.

Here is step two and step three. Add a doubler to each arm to allow more room between the ply plates. The the bottom plate goes on. What you are looking at is actually the bottom of the quad.

Motor mounts glued on. I use 38" square basswood on each side. I will also put a CF pin through them.

Last stage before a little drilling and painting. The blocks are glued to the arms for the legs, blocks glued for the underslung camera mount. Now I'll let it dry overnight. Tomorrow I'll drill the top plate for the FC wires to go through and paint it.

In case anyone is wondering, the balls on the end of the legs are nerf balls covered in tool dip.

Got the motors and props installed. I'm using RC Timer BC 2212 motors with EPP 10X4.7 props. I wonder what the biggest prop is that I can use on these?

I've built a few like this and they usually come in at less than twenty dollars for the wood, paint, and hardware. The arrow shaft legs came from Walmart today. 5 dollars for those, another 5 for the arms, the light ply was 4. The paint was a whole dollar.
