Seems to be when certain conditions arise it happens. Both times there has been a NE wind over 50kts up the hill it has been clouded over.
NE winds come off the ocean, I think the moist air hits the land, gets deflected up and condenses and forms cloud at a certain layer. Just my guess.
About one in every 5 decent NE wind days has the cloud base below ridge height.
If you look at some of my DS vids on You Tube you will see it is cloudy half the time, but the cloud base is high enough.
I need to find a site at a lower altitude for the NE
Just got back from Wainui ridge again. 46kt average, max gust 58kts!!!!!!! This time..... RAIN!!!!!!! Anemometer didn't like getting wet, won't work anymore. Most wind I have experienced in my life!!!!!
Was short breaks between showers, but not enough for me to justify getting a model out and chucking it off. Could have possibly milked a flight out, not sure if the K100 would appreciate flying in rain.
But main reason for not flying was I was by myself as I could get no-one to come radar for me, so pointless flying and risking breaking a model for the sake of a quick fly between showers.
Hey anyone who is reading this, any ideas on a radar robot or an automated radar stand etc… for when I am by myself??? Or would that be frowned apon? Finding radar operators mid-week for me is the closest thing to impossible
