We got some DS in at the wind farm on Saturday, in less than ideal conditions. This is Dave flying the Mauler

Remember... Fly for fun!
Was reading over the NZ DS Fest thread today, and got inspired to go for a fly.

Went up to Wainui, Ah I missed that place!

Best DS site in the world Alex. Cleanest shear, great power, huge zone, incredible views.

The K2M looks so ... slick? Fast, tracking on rails. Really nice. Looks like you were feeling pretty happy with it, doing those crazy acros.

What speed do you think you were getting?

Ohhhwww man when you landed and the wing was up against that grey blob I thought it was a rock!! So happy it turned out to be a bush when you got up close!

making my own planes...

DAmm Alex, you make DS looks so easy... amazing skills, congrats!
The only concern I had was about your car, it was exactly in plane's route.

Cheers guys. Probably got it up to ~270odd maybe a little more at times.

Was great fun flying it!

Best Wainui conditions since 2011! High Shear, More power on the slightly higher line, Super clean shear, Great frontside lift. Wish I had someone else there too...

The car is in a cutting in the hill-side, and parked at my risk.

I love the K2m! Just an awesome model, nothing short!

Nice flying Alex! Makes me smile to see you having so much fun with the K2m! Ironically, we had an unusually nice high clean shear layer at Weldon yesterday to the degree that the high line was often a good bit faster than the classic low tilted orbit. Looking forward to seeing you fly the K2m in the BIG winds!

Any progress building out your K130?

No progress on the 130. Have all the gear sitting there for it, just need to install. No workshop, and no time. Starting back on shift work next week, so should see some progress from then on

Nice work Alex... Love the tighter lap towards the end.
What weight is yours ? It's a heavy version right ? Just interested in the landing looks like it was a lot hotter then Eric's and didn't hover in. What was the wind speed.

Wind was about 30mph and yes, it is the heavy version without ballast.

Landing was also cross-wind and in a sheltered spot. I usually land a bit further down, but I couldn't be bothered walking as it is so easy to land!

Keeping an eye on a little Tekapo forecast. I miss that place, and we haven't had any big West winds there since the big day we had for the DS Fest. Very strange for summer. It's like Weldon not getting Westerlies
