The first site on the vid is 15 minutes drive and then 45 minutes walk to get to from my house. I had not flown there before so it was just to check the site out, however the site (Pukerua Bay) just down the road is better, closer and less walk.

The day 2 site is half an hour drive, then 45 minutes walk. That site has plenty of room and good shear but like most DS ridges, not great for landing. On the same piece of land there is a north facing ridge (that we just discovered works in a southerly as well) and it has room for Africa and a few more landing opportunities. Luckily, back in the day I use to race motocross with the farmers son, so the farmer lets us drive right to the site.

Today (third day of DS this week), Dave, Gareth and I DSíed the wind farm in Palmerston North and that is a couple of hours drive from my place. There may be some video to follow but that is a good spot, if a bit small. If you walk a bit there is another part of the ridge with more room for bigger circuits. The sheer there can be great and today with a meagre 10 Ė 15mph breeze Dave got 114 with his Tomcat, Gareth got 117 with is Typhoon and I got 119mph with my Ellipse

Good 40-50mph at Mt John, means a good 50mph bang on the ridge.

OUCH!

Of all the gliders that I own, itís the easiest to fly and the easiest to DS. Itís just the pucker factor because I know that one mistake and itís all over , and itís my favourite plane. It goes heaps smoother with ballast on board.
