Question

infrared combat system

maybe off topic but couldn't find a suitable thread

looking for kits or stand alone units for infrared combat with RC vehicles

i know you can buy off the shelf battle tanks, helicopters and daleks that use infrared but i'm wondering if you can buy any system that can be attached to any RC vehicles to create a battle game?

Do a search on here for CSM Airwars - IR combat modules that were available maybe 8-10 years ago. There are definitely threads on here discussing the system. I still have a couple in the cupboard myself.

Maybe there is a toy system that could be hacked apart and retrofitted into a plane.

I remember playing with the Laser Tag systems that were sold in the mid-80s and they worked very well.

Our group has used this unit for several years ago and are going to start using them again on our planes.We haven't had any problem with them.

The CSM AIRWARS system is a revolutionary way to enhance the enjoyment of RC models by creating totally new ways to compete with your friends. Although primarily designed for aerial combat use in EPP foam slope soarers, with its high degree of programmability it can be applied in many ways to all types of R/C models.

Features of the AIRWARS system.

* Non-contact combat system fires Infra-red 'bullets'.
* Eye safe - does NOT use lasers.
* 'Bullets' coded to identify who hits whom.*
* All data logged on board - no secondary radio links used.
* Programmable optional servo response to hits.*
* LED indicator shows firing status and hits count.
* Two operating modes - Triggered and continuous firing.
* Automated PC based scoring system records combat results for up to 30 pilots per contest.*
* Scoring system uses pilot names (saved in AIRWARS unit) for simple contest organisation.*
* Scoring system keeps permanent detailed records of all combat.*
* Programmable fire burst length & ammunition limit.*
* Small (25mm x 50mm x 9mm) and light (approx. 25g).
* Simple, quick installation.

Each AIRWARS unit has an infra-red gun which emits coded 'bullets'. The unit is also equipped with a 'Target' sensor which detects when it has been hit by a coded bullet from another AIRWARS unit.

Each hit on the target is recorded in the AIRWARS non-volatile memory, and, if desired, the model can be made to respond to being hit with a programmable sequence of servo movements.

The number of hits on the target is shown by the flashing of the FIRE / HITS indicator LED and this can be used to score small informal battles.
name on them!

Without a plane design to use it with it may not be much good to you but I do have them
Available from Air2Air Combat LLc.
The program chip board for the newer bulbs are not built.

Havoc heli

My idea was to have a seperate trigger to avoid complications with the transmitter and then just have a havoc heli laser battle pack. comes with two helis, just take out the receiver module in there and wire in the motor from your tx somehow, it would take tinkering and soldering skills, but it is small, lightweight and inexpensive if you purchase one from ebay, I'v seen as low as 40.00$ for one.

Built a few flash bulb infrared system for line control Combat but never built planes for them.
Still to much for micro flights though.
Maybe one day~

If you're willing to build one yourself using an arduino mini pro and some very basic electronics check http://redmine.hcpl.be/projects/tag-combat/wiki (I also opened a thread here about this project). Very few components and easy to make. Code is on the project website (can be adapted to your needs).

Set your forums up. maybeI can help add to your work.
we mix radio release ribbons "refection tape" ,IR ground and air 2 air release to keep the parts falling off in the area of the field ect.
Planes set up fot night use will also help the IR / momentary FPV to aim ect.
Its a little more work but your one of the few in the ball park.

There is a general forum on the project website (if that is what you're asking for). If you want to contribute it's better to register and give me a notification by e-mail or private message here. Then I'll give your account the needed rights to edit wiki and others.
