Pontoon Boat

Anybody done a pontoon boat in the 30" range?
I was thinking of making one to 1:10 scale with a lit trailer to tow behind my Evader DT.
Has anybody had any similar experiences with this type of boat?

Well, I have the plans on paper. I was wondering if I should fill the floats with helium and put my electronics on top or in a pod under the boat.

Would a Proboat BL outboard and Stiletto motor be sufficient or would I need 2?

Is there a BL ESC that can handle the Stiletto motor that needs only one battery?

and If I put helium in the floats, how often would I need to change it and also would my CG be too high?

I want an easy to build boat that looks good and goes FAST.

Also 2 Proboat BL outboards, 2 stiletto motors, and two stiletto ESCs plus req'd batteries would be pricey

In that case, would 2 Aquacraft EP-1's do the job?

Any help would be much appreciated. I'll post a pic of the plans later.

JSS4 how big are hte pontoons and what do you plan to make them out of? Filling with helium won't do a heck of a lot of you as it will condense one inside and in the water. Filled mine with dense light weight foam to keep from filling with water and keep things boyant on my RDY on my build of " my yatch'.

Planned pontoon size is 2.5" diam PVC pipe.

Should I put the electronics in the floats and fill the rest with foam?

Anyways, plans are attached, still a WIP. Tell me what you think.

Recomend doing a test with a piece about the size yours will be to check for boyancy and displacement. On mine i found out that the weight of the PVC didn't ballance out for the bouyancy needed and they had no "lift " for supporting a platform with any gear on board. Look at model rocket tubes in the size you need and seal them with some epoxy and even fill with styofoam. I would not put the electronics and such in the pontoons. Instead make a shallow box for under the deck and use a counsol and coolers as hollow detail to hide receivers and servos. Shallow tray under deck with acces for batteries and/or radio gear.

Thanks again, Keith. I thought putting the electronics in the pontoons would lower the CG and increase stability and turning performance. I was also going to put the switch wires under the pontoons so the ESCs turn on only when in the water and shut off upon removal.

How should I store the batteries, and are there any BL ESCs for marine that only need one battery?
