At 269 Euro / $369 will be hard to compete in US.
No A/V out during recording specified, just plug listed as available.
Also, the same damned 170 degrees at 720p... argh... when they learn this is not a plus !!!

LE: after watching the video, the Actionpro image seems better, but the moongel mounting was a wrong decission, it amplifies waving making it worse.
Many mk owners already noticed this, a rigid camera mount is better than a dumped one, if you don't master the engineering of vibrations dumping.

Anyway, not for me, at this price even Replay XD is better.

I'm all for a new GoPro competitor... but looking at that last video, the GoPro looks far better in my opinion. The colors have better range, the white balance is acceptable and the image looks richer. Since the second video is publicity/commercialized, who knows what post processing that went through to make it look better.

Based on that last comparison vid, it looks like the old Hero HD has superior light handling
and colors, and we know the new Hero2 has even better color handling.
Doesn't look like much competition.

And is not at all a German camera !

The original mfr of this camera is an Australian based security cameras company, named Swann, so probably a Chinese product in the end.
You can find this camera on US market as Swann Freestyle HD, has a MSRP of $279.99 and is available for purchase at, Tiger Direct, Fry’s, and others.

So, those who rely on this attribute "German product" to promote this product should make a step back...
In this field there is no more inovation for long time from German industry unfortunately. First was the ACME with their lame line of FlyCam cameras, recently Rolleiflex tried to put its prestige name on other lemon, that now sells at HK as "HD wing camera"... very sad to see such a big optical industry is not able to make an original product, and use their history to label lemons.

Lol, Ian, you stole my surprise post

You guys know your stuff
I like the fact the lens are centered.
The GoPro does not include a screen. This does. That's a $100 difference.
Im a proud owner of a Gopro and im definitely going for the hero2
But i think for someone without deep pockets this is a good option the performance is good and it has a nice assortment of mounts, it could give GoPro a run for their money.

Go Pro contrast and colour reproduction are completely off. The sky is washed out and Cyan, not real. The grass is way too green. In that respect the Actionpro is much more faithful in that respect.

However the Actionpro has quite a bit of wavey/quivering in the video where the GoPro does not. (Watch at 3:00)

Read my post above where can you find it in US at $269, under the real brand/name.

Regarding waviness of this camera, I thoink is from the wrong mounting on moongel. If mounted rogid as the neighbour GoPro, we should expect the same (lack of).
I agree that the colors of Swann camera are better than the washed GoPro.

Swann Freestyle HD 1080p

I bought the camera you guys are talking about. This camera is made in CHINA, not in Germany or Australia. It is made in Shenzhen, China by AEE factories.
It is sold worldwide under different brand names such as (but likely not limited to): Swann Freestyle HD, Actionsport SD20F, AEE SD20 and AEE SD26 (depending on where you live).

There are a lot of accessories available and this site has them listed all. For example, a chest mount is available as well as a housing that can accommodate the back LCD.

I was looking for an action cam to shoot flyfishing (saltwater footage, I live in Fl, USA). So, I bought a Contour HD, a GoPro Hero HD Helmet and the Swann freestyle. I have left the Contour and GoPro boxes unopened (you are welcome to PM me with a reasonable offer on these).

To me the Swann is a keeper. I have found that it performs well in low light condition and that the white balance works better than the GoPro. I also think that the colors on the Swann are true colors and not too warm or too contrasted as on the GoPro. It is a bit like comparing Kodak vs. Nikon pictures. Kodak is well known to have very warm color. This can be post processed with a good video editing software anyways.

I bought mine on a flash sale for 139 USD shipped. So, at that price it is a keeper. The USD price in the US fluctuates quite greatly, but I have seen it go as low as 179 USD and the highest I have seen was 199 USD.
At this price, it is a no brainer when compared to the GoPro hero HD, which MSRP is 239 USD... but is always found at a much lower price.

Cheers to all, just my 0.02 here.

Here is a video sample with the camera in its casing on the side window of the dashboard of my Honda fit. Quite crisp.
1080p 30fps, the video starts slow because of the quick cutting, it does not occur normally.
Untitled (1 min 18 sec)

I had a full review posted on a forum and it got deleted. I will redo it here later. Here is another video with low light conditions and the camera mounted on a helmet. the last minute of the movie was done when after the sun set for about 15 minutes. It looks brighter than my eyes could see it. Pretty good low light.
Thanks for the reps.
Untitled (3 min 9 sec)

Shoot, it does not show in 1080p???
Same video in 480p, not sure why not in HD (I am new to this).
bassfishing 12 25 12 (3 min 10 sec)

The Swann is sold in Europe as the AEE ACTIONPRO SD20F ( or SD26.
After comparing videos, I think I favor the Swann for its better low light capabilities and white balance. The colors also are more true than on the GoPro (colors are very warm, it is like comparing Kodak vs Nikon cameras).

Here is a review in German (with a comparison with the GoPro). Use Google chrome to open it so that you can translate it.

Here is a youtube video showing it while surfing... It seems to me that one of the problem of having a flat window on the video casing is that water could accumulate there.

Another video showing the one picture at a time feature:

Review in German:

Video testI forgot to mention that the camera has a digital zoom 3x)

GoPro vs AEESD20: More washed pictures on the AEE20, and more vivid colors (too vivid?) on the GoPro.

Flying with the ActionPro

Diving with the ActionPro:

agreed. im very anti hero 1 for virtually every reason under the sun, and it still crushed it in this video.
despite the gopro's poor record for exposing scenes correctly & adjusting to light conditions in a timely fashion, it exposed the entire video correctly, was correctly re-metering throughout the video. about the only negative thing you can say is that the color saturation is a little too high. which, is easily fixed in seconds during post-processing... so not that much of a strike against it.

the non gopro camera (whatever name you want to call it). is suffering from an obvious over-exposure, has white balance issues, the color scale is screwed from the incorrectly exposed image, is not as sharp, suffers far worse from video compression. you can't fix an over exposed base paper white, grey scaled image.

so... the gopro hero 1 killed it & like you said the hero 2 is far superior to the hero 1. so why would anyone waste the money trying to equal the hero 1 for MORE cost, or not coming close to the hero 2 for... more cost again?
