maiden flight.

Well the 1st flight is over. She some what survived the ordeal.

It properly too windy to fly but I couldn't wait any longer so I just got her ready and launched her.
She actually flew pretty well for a few minutes. My landing was not so great as she landed in a bush and the 2 control arms for the ailerons came of and are lost. Also the control horn on the flap came lose.
I've been using insta-cure for glue but I feel like I'm missing something when I use it. The stuff does not dry as fast as advertised, but maybe im using too much of it.

Its tough out here in Nantucket as there are no hobby shops on island so I have to order everything online and sit and wait for the stuff to arrive.
I did order new control horns but I need to buy a bunch of replacement control arms.
Any recommendations?

thanks

For small items like that I always keep spare parts on hand. I use www.hobby-lobby.com and they ship quickly!!

For control rods just go to your local hardware store and get some piano wire, I don't even use the threaded horns on my plane, all of my controls are Z bent and directly on the servo arms / control horns.

Crap!!! To begin with it looked unstable at take off almost hitting that tree.

Then it looked like you were either fighting the wind or a control surface not responding properly like a broken horn or servo. I looked like nothing you did could get it level again.

Were you able to rescue the plane and any of the electronics?

It also sounded like the throttle was full the last couple of loops before it hit.

Max was that intentional?

Strikes me that is a ripped/damaged control surface (elevator likely) or broken horn or servo.

Glad you got it back....is the camera still working?? Looks like it shorted out at the end there.

At about 1:30 your elevator locked up. Pretty hard to get out of that one.....

Stock servos?

servos were hxt900's. Camera still works and the electronics are drying out in a bowl if rice for a few days. Plane is already fixed with new servos and electronics and flying again. This thing is a beast!!! Tomorrow she goes up for a 1 mile FPV flight, only over dry ground this time!!

Does anyone have or tried mounting their batteries below the main wing? If so, what are the flight characteristics and do you have any problems with the battery in that location. Getting ready to build my next plane and am considering that location for batts.

So while I'm waiting for the river crash plane to dry out a bit, I decided to try the camera on my Stinger jet. I was surprised it actually worked. This is the same camera that was in the water as well. So check out the raw unedited video.

Nice sudden stop at the end.

Is that camera a stand alone or do you use it for FPV video transmission?

This is a stand alone camera I just picked up. It's a Replay XD1080. It's smaller and lighter than a Gopro and I like the finished videos better. They have a more flatter appearance than the curver fisheye look of the Gopro videos. I have all the equipment for FPV transmission but I like this camera for LOS flying. I don't always need to fly long distances.
