To piggy-back off Terry's earlier post, the operative word here is FUN. Back in the late ‘80's - early ‘90s when the El Dorado Silent FLiers was still a soaring club, we hosted a Toys-for-Tots event every December. They were very well attended, and all the pilots who participated had a ton of fun. The fondest memory I have from a past ‘Tots event was the year Joe W. showed up with a plush teddy bear that was almost bigger than he was. The marines that year were really impressed by the number of toys the event gathered.

Plan on challenging flight tasks with fun (yet challenging) landing tasks, hanging out with your flying buddies, getting into the Christmas spirit and who knows what else Terry and I are planning. The motto of the EDSF contests was, "Helping to brighten the Christmas of needy children everywhere." Maybe we should resurrect that motto.

This is a great idea guys.
I have a question though, If I have some toys that are "used" can those be put to use? I was going to drop them off at the Salvation Army, but it might be better to give them to a more specific cause.

I am not implying donating a used toy for the entry fee. Just in additional to an unwrap new toy. I got a whole garage full of "kids stuff" that is taking up plane space

Tuan,

I think that any toy donations in addition to new toy donations will be fine, so long as the additional toys are in new condition.

Posted the event on FB for the non-flyers. Hope it helps with the turn out.
I'm bringing TWO toys!

Tom-
My wife said it wasn't windy at all today here, and I was offshore today and it was a different story. I wouldn't worry too much, the field is a bit protected seemingly.
