Update on my 74" Build: I'm almost done! I got the Motrolfly mounted with about 1/8" of gap. Aileron servos are installed and working pefect, and I finally got my elevators and rudders mounted on the stabs (thanks SteveT for the advice on installing the plastic hinges!).
All I've got left is to install the ESC/BEC, connect the elevator servo/links, and setup the pull-pull and she'll be finished and ready for maiden flight.

Here is the setup I used:
  • Motor: Motrolfly 5320-380kv
  • Prop: Xoar 19x8
  • LiPo: 2 Zippy 4s4000mah 40c in series
  • ESC: ZTW 120A HV ESC with EC5 connectors
  • BEC: CC Bec Pro 20a
  • Servos: Align DS610 (Savox 1258tg) all around
  • RX: Spektrum AR6210 DSMX with TM1000 installed for LiPo voltage and motor temp.

I used 15 minute epoxy as I already had some available in my office.

that works, as long as you work fast...I prefer a little slower, as it not only gives me more working time, but also soaks into the wood more....but that's just me..

wow, a 380kv on 8s with a 19x8! A real screamer! I played with a 12l and 18x8 as as much as I could go. I'm using the 5320 330 on 8s, 19x8.

You're right...nice catch, I made a typo. It's a 330kv. (fixed my post)

You'll like that one. I've got a 20x8 but may never try it. With 19x8 power good, temps good. Never put it on a watts up though.

If you have never used those servos before, they rock. super fast.

I haven't but they seem to be extremely quick on the bench. Thanks again for recommending them. I'll probably be doing a test run on the motor and prop sometime this week, and I'll be using a watt meter.

I got the 74 out finally for four flights. I resisted the urge to take the 71 so i wouldnt be tempted to fly it. I did some prop testing with the biela carbon 20x8D 3d prop and the xoar 20x10. The xoar won in a close race. The Biela had amazing airflow over the control surfaces at low airspeed and hover. Hovers required almost no aileron to counter torque and harriers were rock solid at really high alpha even. The xoar had more punch and climb speed. Required a little more aileron bit was still head and shoulders above the apc. In the end i chose the xoar for the slightly higher punch and the deciding factor of it allowing me to run a spinner. Over all this plane is flying much better now and all due to ditching the apc. I was amazed at the difference a prop could make! Even got a few tail touches in

I have that tank on my 71" slick and after an 8 minute flight I still have 4 ounces, hehe. 10 minutes would be easy to do with plenty to spare

Ok great... Then I made a good choice ! The one that comes with the 74" edge is way to big. Gonna use it in the tunnel for my smoke system... Should get 4 minutes of thick smoke.

I had a 8oz fortitude but broke the lid....I replaced it with a 10oz juice bottle...I fly 12min and have almost 1/2 a tank left....OS GT33...sips fuel.

I placed a 3dhs order for a few parts this morning and almost ordered another 8oz tank so I could remove a little fuel weight.....you only need about 7 oz to fly 10 min with plenty of reserve....unless you're wide open all the time.

I love the long flight times and ease of grabbing the gas can.....so much better for me than charging up 6s packs before going to the field. I normally fly an hour on 5 flights of 12min each.....all back-2-back. That'd be hard to do for me if I had to charge that many packs....even harder to pull off if I had to let a motor cool down between flights as I did on my vyper at SEFF. After having a great running 33cc engine...It'd be really hard for me to go back to 6s power.....I'll just keep the 58 around for eleccy flight.

I took the 104 and 74 out on Sunday....found out I enjoy the 74 as much as the 104...it just feels so light and nimble compared to the 120cc stuff....I really like the 74.

I tried a carbon Mejlik 20x6......not as explosive as the 18x8 Xoar wood break-in prop recommended for the OS.....Better airflow over the controls made hovers a little more stable, but more torque off of the 20" needed a little more aileron...... The carbon Mej prop is quieter and smooth, but not as much top speed as the 18x8.

Not sure which one I like better....yet. Thanks to Cmala for machining me a prop-bushing....you'll need one to run a 10mm Mej prop on the 8mm OS shaft. Worked great though, Thanks Craig!!
