Mine are nylon M3 flat heat countersunk phillips. Good to carry spares in your toolkit, as they love to jump into the grass and hide...

Is everyone using the servo location posted by Donnie here for their top drive installs? And if so, is the 60mm measured from the center of the wing or the at the 75mm point?

Thanks,

Ivan MacKenzie.

Yes per MMT instructions.

is the 60mm measured from the center of the wing or the at the 75mm point?
Either point as its about the same (+/- .5mm)

What MMT instructions? I don't see any on their website and I sure never received any with their kit.

you want to make sure that the servos are aft enough such that you dont cut the spar when cutting the servo pocket. the back of the spar ends just shy of 60mm back from the LE as measured from the centerline or 75mm outboard. Hugh is right. the difference is only a mm or so. place the servo aft of that dimension (60mm back from the LE).

in terms of how far out to install the servo, you can see some depressions in the wing skin running aft at around 75mm out from the centerline. this is a carbon sock that is inside the wing. it is a rectangular sock and has solid rohacel in the core. i dont know how MMT does this. see attached pictures.

when installing a top-drive setup, you bore through the wing. this channel in the foam weakens the wing slightly so MMT has decided to put a carbon sock in the wing in which you bore the pushrod channel. the carbon sock helps the wing retain much of its strength even with a channel. this sock is centered about 75mm out from the centerline. you want to install the servo such that is is outboard enough that the pushrod runs through this sock. the sock is a rectangular shape so the edges of the sock can be seen in the wing skin if you look at the wing from a certain angle and lighting. this is very hard to explain without pictures so i have attached some from my wing. you will see that my pushrod is centered down the two small depressions both on top and bottom. these two small depressions are the edges of the carbon sock. you should be able to hold it up to the light and see what i am talking about. hope this helps.

since the danfans are posting about the danbags... here is a shot of my box as it arrived in North Carolina for next weeks annual OLEGFEST!! ( lets see if he secretly trolls this thread with his secret polaris envy..) dan also made me some sweet tail bags for the trip, along with new wing bags. Everything arrived in tip top shape.
