But if The Bird Man really wanted ballast it would be best inserted in the tail boom! Fast and easy! Sorry to get you going Donnie.

Carry on now with this perfectly good thread, sorry for the intrusion.

i am still using the tungsten plates used for pinewood derby cars. here is a link: http://www.maximum-velocity.com/tungstenplates.htm

here is the purchasing page: http://www.maximum-velocity.com/pine...ght.htm#plates

these are great but the ballast box centers them around 70mm which is too far aft. cut them down to size so the CG remains within 65-69mm. here is a post i made a while back: https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/show...&postcount=382

if you cut the plates down to size, you can get about 75gr which should be plenty of ballast. in competition i dont think i have ever added more than an ounce, and that was once.

so you do have a Polaris now? sweet plane! i still love mine no complaints, even rudderless.

Donnie, good luck with the maiden. let us know how it goes. i have a light layup still sitting in my closet. i should be starting the build very soon. i need it for the TS.

Thanks guys (curse you and your Neil Lemon!)

I'm sure there will be wind at some point this weekend. I've had about 15 min total time with my Polaris so I'll be flying a bit blind this. And you are so right about BSOCo... I so don't want to repeat that in New Mexico.

(sitting in the Phoenix airport... It's 108 F out there at 7pm!)

Well she fly's, got out this morning for a flew test flights and I am again impress with this model. I was worried that she would not take a 100% power on launch but I was wrong and Bruce was correct "don't get a big head". It's Strong and at 8.5 oz it is a floater with out question. This was the easiest build I have ever had, I think this is my fifth Polaris and I now know how to make the take anything. For this one I used ATX 94802's and plan to stay with them, they look like the DS09's but sound much cleaner. The last set of 09's I got sound like a box of rocks but still work well. 802's look just like the 09's so they fit really well. I have found out that the recommended settings are the best for this bird if going rudderless, I have tried all kinds of setting but keep ending up at the stock throws. I love it thanks again MMT.

How does the launch height compare with the heavier layups?

I don't think it launch's as high but it make up for that in float. gives up maybe ten feet or so in launch. It really turns with the lighter wing, it's my best planes for low lift. I was happy that I only had to add 10 grams to the nose to get the CG correct. I would say that I will use this plane in the morning when the lift is no where to be found. Very Happy!

I have shipped to 35 customers this year so far. Some of those guys got 2 so my guess, counting mine is somewhere around 45 or so. I just got a new shipment yesterday with a new team Sweden wing for me!

Kentucky Bruce,

Do I get this right : you're actually trying to break these Swedish monsters ?
Now that's easy : just put it on the ground in front of you and then jump on it with both feet aimed at the wing/fuse joint. It works, even if you're underweight like you
If you fail to break it, call me on my cellphone +33 670 820 253.
By the way : don't know why you absolutely wanne break it ? Seems like a fine glider, especially with the rudder option (kevlar hinge and stuff...)
