6lbs. In a 70mm has a nice sound to it. Inefficient burst only.

I assume since you list 3 different sizes of fans, that you will have different KV's available???

Yes, I know that's what's available now, but I'm talking about sustained operation above 3kw and long bursts at power levels approaching 4kw.

It's not for your average jet jocky for sure, but there are some "over the top" types that will HAVE to HAVE one.

Testing so far has been with the 80mm E-flight fan at over 50k.

That's a lot of sustained power.

I wonder tho; along with that power comes the associated heat. 64mm & 70mm fans without good heat dissipation solutions might be problematic?
Unless I'm screwed up somewhere, 3000watts at say 85% efficiency = 450watts of heat to deal with.

Leave it up Lee, to push the envelope..

I would think an alum motor/stator assembly might be necc? I don't think the common plastic will suffice. And a longgggg can motor to run on 12s, to keep the amps reasonable?(lowerKv) Am I thinking in the right direction?

An outrunner in the standoff position solves the heat problems. No heat is transfered to the shroud and there's plenty of cool air for the motor. Short answer because I'm on iPhone and at work. Lol

Never thought of that, Lee. I have never used an out runner for EDF.

The outrunners work very well for EDF. The thing I like about them is that I can customize the KV or completely rebuild the motor by rewinding and replacing bearings. The quality of these motors is much better than just a few years ago.

There are RPM limitations because outrunners have more poles than inrunners so the esc has to be able to "talk and listen" faster than with inrunners.

Here`s a little teaser.
