You can test with the board connected to pc. It seems that gain<8 turns it off ( it stops beeping). You need to adjust the values of your switch in both positions. I have a simple 6ch futaba radio, with no knob.. but it isn't a problem: if i want to adjust gain , i keep the radio menu in End Point Adjustment for CH6 and i just click away while in flight. But it seems to me that 10-11 as gain is more than enough.
With height hold on, take offs are not very elegant, but once you get it at least 1m off the ground it seems to do its job. It does seem to suffer a bit from wind, not much as altitude change , but it becomes less floaty and more like naza in the way that it starts/stop more in wind. If its windy i prefer to disable height hold. But i still need to do more tests, but having sh..y weather with rain and fog in past days...
Thank you, that's the best description so far!

I've dealt with him on PMs and emails, it is a challenge at the best of times.

All we are asking for is a bit more support than posting endless pictures and "cool" comments when customers are trying to get assistance with their boards. he is supposed one of the main distributors yet refuses to offer any support or answer any questions.
