Look in the ...Power Systems section... I posted a question.
When is it too much current.??

Phil ( Dr KIWI ) said go for it.

I think this bird needs to fly at night. Flat black should work over enemy terrortory.

Rich

Oh. I have a really beat up old P-51 with the parts in it. so the weight is accurate & the thrust. Hopefully prop speed will be close to calculated.

If Dr Kiwi says go for it, then I totally agree! The man definitely knows his stuff!

The real problem will be getting the COG right with so little battery & motor weights.
I may have to grind away some tail weight. I can get carried away on removing weight.

Agreed! Removing weight from the tail end is a MUST. The question is, how to do it.

You can shave away at the foam from the inside of the fuse to get ride of some weight. You'd be surprised.... a little goes a long way in altering the CG when you take weight from as far back in the fuse as you possibly can.

Also, digging out the battery compartment so you can slide that lipo as far forward as possible will help you out.

It is definitely going to be a heck of a challenge. I have faith in you though!
If you put your mind to it, anything is possible!

Hey Rich, maybe I should have pointed out that the naked NPS one there at Tower is made of EPO foam, so although it's a tough bird it's probably not the best pick if you're striving to keep this one lean, as it will be heavier than your previous one.

I wanted to keep mine light as well and so I chose the first one that I linked to because it's EPS. The ad doesn't specify what type of foam the naked one is, however, I bought a naked NPS Corsair and a naked NPS Spit and they both turned up as EPO, but I knew that going into it and I plan to overpower them.

Is the newer tougher plane actually a stronger material?

EPO is tougher yes, but at the expense of some weight (which is why some people still prefer EPS). Myself I prefer EPO:
- Easier to glue as it is CA safe.
- Easier to fix (boiling water method works better).
- Easier to paint as it accepts wider paint selection.
- Less brittle and doesn't shutter to a million pieces when it meets the ground..

Thanks amav.

I presume I still need to get any molding release off the plastic to have paint stick ? What is used ? Any brands or types of paints work better ?

The plane has a 1 to 2 ratio of balance. Nose is 7". The tail is 14". Both measured from the wing COG point. So a I think I can do .3 to .4 oz off the tail. .2 oz. from the cockpit. .6 from the battery area. .
I am running a 3 cell 400 mah Cheetah pack..

"molding release off the plastic to have paint stick?" No no, you don't have to do anything. The paint will stick without a problem. Some people sand any marking from the molding. I never do. On EPO I have used:
- Cheapy no brand name spray paint from HD.
- HD's Rust-Oleum spray paint.
- Krylon Shortcut spray paint
- Many others are known to work as well.

Always be sure to test the paint first on an extra piece of foam to make sure it doesn't melt it. You may want to apply wbpu as well for a better visual affect and to further strengthen the Plane.

I avoid wbpu like death.

I wind up with a beautiful gloss & 2 to 3 extra ounces. I never sand.

I just noticed with clean glasses You are arnav..Thought it was amav. At 75 I miss things.

You are right about a nice finish. I completly sanded & filled every imperfection on the C47 & 4 engine Cargotrans. My planes are mostly Olive Drab. Bought a gallon from H D. I thin that Latex a lot.

You convinced me

Thanks

When you don't clean your glasses, you don't realize you CA'd your fingers.
When you CA your fingers, you can't disconnect your LI-PO from the charger.
When you don't disconnect the LI-PO from the charger, fires start.
Don't start fires!

If it makes you feel better, I don't wear glasses, and looking at it it really does look like amav (even with my $500 monitor)...
