Is my Thunder AC6 broke? (now with youtube video)

Got my new charger the other day. Finally got around to plugging it in and trying it out on one of my (also new) sky lipo 11.1 3000 mah batteries. Plugged it in and started it up just like in the youtube video. Walk away and come back 5 minutes later and the timer has stopped and the display is flashing and an audible clicking sound is heard.

Unplugged it and tried it agian and same thing. It just flashes and clicks. So I dig the 12 volt alligator clips out and try to run it off of my battery. From the battery it seems to work fine.

Please help.

i have had one for over a year and it works great !! double check to make sure you have the correct battery info selected before you start charging...you will get an errror signal if not correct !

The only thing I did wrong is I had the regular charging selected instead of balance and I had the balance lead plugged in but that should not have caused a problem. And the fact that when connected to a battery it works fine leads me to believe its may be a bad AC power supply.

It sounds like the internal power supply may not be up to the task of charging that battery. Are you charging it at 1C (3 amps)?

I had it set for 3 amps. But now when I simply plug the unit into the wall (with no battery attached) the display flashes fast with an audible clicking sound. When I connect a 12 volt battery it works normally.

Yea its the power supply, its either not working or a internal connection is bad.

Curiously, can you plug the adapter the other way into the charger?

I had this same charger and had the same thing happen to it. They replaced it with a Thunder AC680, because the AC6 was not available and the internal power supply on that one went bad after about 4 months, just popped and quit working. I've just been running it off of my power supply as I don't want to hassle with returning it. This is just a backup charger now as I have others. If you can return it, I would probably try to get something else. The price on those is right but quality seems to be lacking.

Thanks for the help guys I have an update.

I went to amazon dot com and typed in 12v power supply and bought one made for an LCD monitor. It is rated for 6 amps so I guess Ill probably never need to set the unit for more than 3 amps. Addmitedly I know very little about electronics and had my doubts it would work. As luck would have it the connecter is just the right size to fit in the dc port on the side of the unit so I just replaced the power supply that came with my AC6 and ran the cord out the right side and over to the left side. It looks ghetto but it actually works (for now). Fingers crossed that this will be a long term fix. I'm looking forward to not having to bother with the motorcycle battery and plug in charger.

Just curious...why didn't you just have HobbyPartz replace it if this happened upon the first use after receiving it?

That is what I should have done. I honestly do not have an answer for that. I guess I thought maybe I did something wrong and it was my fault it broke. Or at the very least maybe there was nothing wrong with it and I wasn't doing something right. At any rate its working now.
