Presuming that the calc program assumes 90% DC-DC conversion efficiency to get this number?

4.2 X 5 X 10 / 12 / .9 = ~19.4A

Quick question - Do the PL8 and PL6 have charge lead voltage drop compensation? e.g. - When charging lipolys, does the charger switch from CC to CV mode when the main output reaches 4.2 x cell count or when the first cell reaches 4.2 volts as sensed by the balance lead?

Hi:

It's actually 85% efficiency (worst case).

40A input current limit

12V * 40A = 480W

480W * .85 = 408W available at output

408W / (4.2 * 5) = 19.4A

Ok, I see that the calculation is based upon max input power limitation. Thanks Tim.

Have searched and still cannot find an answer to my above question:

"Do the PL8 and PL6 have charge lead voltage drop compensation? e.g. - When charging lipolys, does the charger switch from CC to CV mode when the main output reaches 4.2 x cell count or when the first cell reaches 4.2 volts as sensed by the balance lead?"

Thanks,
Mark

Voltage readings are taken without current flowing. There is no voltage drop when there is no current.

Of course there is no voltage drop at zero current. This is not my question.

My question is: "When charging lipolys, does the charger switch from CC to CV mode when the main output reaches 4.2 x cell count or when the first cell reaches 4.2 volts as sensed by the balance lead?"

Count my vote in the "like it" column. Also with the PL6 or 8, a single FUIM can be used to drive multiple chargers in expansion mode, or by adding a switch can be used to control and update either charger seperately when not in expansion mode. Switching between chargers does not require disconnecting and reconnecting the USB cable. Very handy when you need to perform a firmware update on both chargers.

Hi:

To answer your question:

Before the first cell reaches 4.200V, the balancer is turned on. We use 1 amp balancers, which are the industry’s largest. This allows the other cells to catch up. Mostly the pack is balanced before CV occurs. But once the highest cell reaches the set charge voltage, the current starts reducing and CV begins.

I know it's for two, but I dont understand the point. What's wrong with just using them seperate?

My understanding is that expansion mode just makes it so you don't have to push so many buttons since the second charger "mirrors" the preset of the primary charger.

I spent a little more time to read the bullets. I'm not sure if I can capitalize off of this feature. I'll be running packs at different times
