I use this servo on the tail of my 450x and 300x.

Next step?
Hi to all.
Apologies if this has already been covered off in previous posts.. I am fairly new to the sport and loving it to bits. Extremely comfortable with a V911. Have a V929 in the post to start the progression towards CP. My question is whether you think it is too big a jump to move from a quad like the V929 to a heli like the Blade 450 X or would you recommend a smaller CP like a Blade Nano or MCPX BL as an "in betweener"? |

I was in your boat a year ago. I had never flown a heli, not once. Bought a mcpx (brushed) got 100 flights, and went and bought a 300x and a 450x. Been loving it ever since. It is good that I crashed my 300 and 450 once each. You have to learn how to fix and rebvuild them |

The mCPX V2 may be a different story though (less powerful from what I hear). |

My mcpx v2 taught me how to fly CP. When I got my 450x then moved to 500 size its easier the bigger they are. More stable, but more costly in a crash. Learning is about logging flight time. IMHO, the mcpx v2 is a greap CP learning tool. Bigger helis you'll feel more comfortable with.

A 450X is going to bring on a good pucker factor, I'd say get the MCPX BL and a 450X and have the big bird ready to go when it feels right. I know that trying the 450 out to early for me, settled me right down to take it slow |

Hello all, sorry, it's been a while since I've posted in this thread. I've been messing around with my DJI Phantom, and my new Precision Aerobatics Katana MD. But now I think I'm going to swing back around to flying my 450x for a while.
Anyhow, I would have to agree with johnyrocco123. Yes the mcpx brush-less can be a bit of a handful to fly, but the parts are WAY CHEAPER! Not only that, if you can learn to master the mcpx, then you will have a much better time handling the 450 3D. If you look at my YouTube channel (http://www.youtube.com/user/saltydog1984) and check out the uploaded videos, you will pretty much see the heli path that I chose. My first helicopter was the blade msr. I used that little guy to learn orientation. But since you have flown a quad, you are already familiar with orientation. Then after the msr I bought the mcpx (first version) and beat that to hell because it was a lot worse than the newer version 2 or brush-less version. But I learned to master that little mcpx. I also bought a simulator, first I got Realflight, then I bought Pheonix. I love them both. I can't stress enough as to how using a simulator improved my flying skills. You are able to learn how to fly stunts, inverted, and so on, with no worries about crashing. I still practice on the simulator at least 30 minutes a day. Then I got the 450 3D. And I only crashed it twice, once because I forgot to switch to idle up (stunt mode) before I flipped it inverted. Thinking I was in stunt mode, I lowered the throttle stick reducing power, and it dropped. The other time I got dumb thumbs and went wrong way on the stick and drove it into the ground (luckily I caught it on video!) Since the 450 3D (which I eventually sold), I bought the 450x, and have only crahsed it once (I was getting cocky and doing rainbows to close to the ground). But each time I crashed the 450 3D, and the 450x, it cost me about $100 to repair. I crashed the mcpx multiple times, and when I did need to buy parts it was no more than $20. So I say get the mcpx, or maybe even the Nano, if you are anxious to get a helicopter. But if I were you, I would invest in a simulator if you haven't bought one already. |

As for the MCPX V2, MCPX BL, and the Nano. You may find the MCPX to be a little more stable than the Nano. I have the Nano, and V1 MCPX, and I found the Nano to be more difficult to fly than the MCPX V1, it's very quick on the controls. But it's a great little helicopter once you master it. I have heard that the MCPX BL is WAY better than the V1. Also, I just thought of this, the Blade 130 might be a better choice! Sorry I didn't think of this earlier! I happened to see the advertisement in the upper corner flash it up. Any how, I have one of those as well, I use it to practice stunts on it before doing them on my 450x. The Blade 130 is really a rugged little helicopter, and in my opinion is more stable than the smaller ones. And it can take a beating too! I was doing forward inverted flight with it, lost altitude and literally bounced it twice on the ground (again, this was inverted), picked it up, rolled it over and flew away! Not only that, the parts are still cheap, and there are many options to choose from for upgrading the parts. Microheli has a large selection of cnc parts, and they actually improve the performance. But still right out of the box the 130x is a great heli. |

Of course bigger flies better. But you never learn to fly on a 100c airplane.
I would say the same with heli's. Smaller is more difficult, so it teaches you more. |

If I had to do it over again, I would have gone with a good simulator first, followed by the nano and the 130X. Nano: crash worthiness, low cost of repair, and total lack of the pucker factor 130X: smallest size that still flies a LOT like a bigger heli to work on your moves before trying them out on the bigger helis |

Thanks all. I think I have been convinced into a 130x. I was nervous about the 130x initially as for some reason I thought it was much bigger and more towards the pro market.
So now that I am on track for 130x and then 450x... what is a good value TX? Is Turnigy 9x possible? |
