I broke my V1 at the same spot, I also fixed it with CF rod enforcement. I did notice significant increase in elevator authority afterward.

your story made me decide to do this again on my uncrashed V2.

how do i go about doing this?? elevator is real thin.....
how do you press a round tube into the foam?
also how much and where do you glue along the tubing?

lastly, do you have to use foam safe?

thanks

Yes, use foam safe CA. I grabbed regular CA by mistake to re-glue a strut to the wing on my V1 and it melted the foam.

I used 11 size surgical scalpel blade, carefully cut open a 1/3 to 1/2 thickness groove, bury 0.5 mm CF rod into the groove. then apply a few drops of foam safe CA along the seam.

it's kinda tricky, especially when elevator has been installed on the airframe. patience and steady hands are the key, otherwise you will do more damage rather than enforcement to the model.

Broken wing, spinner, etc. When I had it on the bench to check out and repair, I found the root cause of my elevator problems: the surface had torn right near the control horn, at the thinnest part, so when it was tested just sitting still, both sides moved fine, but you could easily waggle it to make the sides move separately, like from even the slightest touch, or a breath of wind.
Sorry Guys, I'm a bit late with this reply. I go to sleep and the thread grows another page!

Cases like this are why we do a "positive control check" on full sized aircraft. By this I mean we operate a control while gently holding the surface still. Don't be too heavy handed or damage to a perfectly good control could result, careful handling shows up any problems like what happened here.

I think that I will be doing this mod too. Might look to see if it can be done on the Sbach too, kill two birds with one stone - strengthen the elevator and push the CG back too...

I might be taking the wife back out to Maui again soon. We went there on our honeymoon. We stayed at the Westin in Kanapali (sp?). LOVED it!

I hope to get her back out there sometime this summer.
