Got 3S Babbel-Batts on the way. Woo-Hoo!. Not good flying weather

Did not get to fly, but got the 3S BabbllBatts. Nice! Curiosity was killing
Me , so I charged one, hooked it up & did hand -held tests. Went back
& forth between WOT & cruising throttle while holding the Beast., expecting
it to cut out, but it did not. Hopefully I will be one of the Lucky ones If My
brick lasts till the camera arrives, I will do a vid.
(Thanx Roger. Great service) BabbelBatts is the Berries)

re: 3S Beasts...

So, it looks like the stock ESC/BEC on the plane can handle 3S in some cases, and not others. It also looks as if the stock brick CAN handle 3S insofar as voltage goes - no mods per se. Is this correct?

I understand that the brick may cut out on some models due to being close to the rails, as it were, for the power handling. Can someone confirm this?

Thanks! My plane flies great with my 2S NT 260s, but 3S would indeed be interesting... I saw a vid or two on Youtube with a 3S Beast and she really flies well in wind!!!

SC,

Yep!

Almost no burn-out problems reported on 3S power.
Heat seems to be the big issue for some.
Some have added a micro heat sink to the brick with excellent results.

Personally, my 3SB3D has over 200 flights on her.
She is solid as a rock but I rarely fly her in temps over 85.
In my book, she is the perfect ultra-micro for 3S power!

Thanks, RCB!

I appreciate the info. I'll probably fly my B3D on 2S for the remainder of the year (probably only 4 weeks max before winter begins here in Alberta). Good to know I may have some fun this upcoming springtime!!!

Cheers and many thanks for the great info you have on here!

After the snow last night and all day today I am tempted to put the skis on my Stinson now! No need to put the Beast away in winter though Darren, I fly mine all winter right off the street in front of the house. It flys great off the hard packed snow, and keeps the thumbs in practice for when spring comes.

I have a ton of winter flying videos on my youtube site, justlostagain, if you are interested.

Take care,

Marlin

Thanks, Marlin!

Glad to know! I fly my decathlon on skis during the winter. I'll probably fly my Beast more this winter, since its batteries are internal (not like my micro champ, for example).

I'll check out those videos! Thanks very much, and smooth flying...

I have been thinking about re-powering mine with the Gee Bee motor (3000kv), a 5x3 GWS prop, and some nano-tech 2s 260's. Any thoughts or has anyone tried this already?

I like the 2300kv motor with a 5043 prop a lot better. It's within a hair of the same power and it's a lot quieter, a lot more peaceful to fly. You won't disturb your neighbors, get thrown out of a park, etc. The 3000kv sounds like a hornet's nest. It's just not worth it IMHO.

I've got some GWS props due any time! I have the 3-blade 5x3s as well coming in to try also.

They MAY (pleeze! ) arrive today. If so, I'll be experimenting this weekend. I will be happy to report the performance of the stock 2500kV motor on my V2 Beast with these and the 260s I run on mine.

I also am making a custom foam 3-blade spinner in case this does work well.

Stay tuned, erkq...

I have this setup and love it! It is louder but the power and immediate throttle response is worth it in my opinion.

I think I'm the only one here who has flown all major setups:
2500kv + stock prop
2500kv + 5030
2300kv + 5043
3000kv + 5030
I've also flown it on some other setups:
above motors + 6030 prop and a custom 5530 prop
Also flew it on the GWS 5x3x3.
Performance is slightly less with the 3blade prop but it looks AMAZING!! Especially with the tips painted red.

I did an indepth review of flight performance and battery draw a while back. I'll edit and link it in a bit.
*edit: Here it is

Wow! That is a very thorough 2s review, thanks. I'll go with the 3000kv/5030 setup after reading that. I also fly wings, so the angry hornet sound is normal at the local park(s). Neighbors are not a concern and I also kind of prefer hearing the motor. It will be a winter project so when it's done i'll get as many different batteries as I can round up and post some wattmeter stats here.

Wow!

Thanks Kalmon!

Now, the newer planes with AS3X seem to be coming with a 2500kV motor, maybe not a big difference, but it'll be interesting to see what is up! As my moniker says, I like 3-blade props a lot so I am really looking forward to seeing what one will do on my plane.

I have a spare foam spinner from a different model that I have modified to work with the Beast's prop adapter/plate so when I try the 3-blade, I can pop it on there. Painting the tips red is a great idea! I think I'll look into that too...

Thanks again for sharing your great review of several systems. My goodies did not make it before the weekend, so I'll probably be doing this within the next week...

Cheers, and smooth skies, sir!
