Anyone else doing this?


When I get a brushless motor and esc, I do the following...

Remove the thick shrink wrap, retain the label if possible, and wrap the esc in Kapton tape.

Desolder the esc wires and solder the motor directly to the esc board.

No, I am not doing that. I can't see why you'd want to?
Warranty claims on ESC's are void if their shrink has been removed.
Soldering motor wires directly to ESC is very likely to overheat the components mounted next to the wires.

Didn't know that about the warranty. I like the shorter wire length, and would prefer to solder to the esc, rather than cut the wire.

The wrapping in kapton tape? Just wanted something lighter than trying to recover in a another shrink wrap.

Is it better with brushless motors to have short esc to motor leads, or battery to esc leads or does it matter?

I used to solder the motor directly to the ESC, but it is dangerous!

the motor leads are very stif, and if you solder them directly to the ESC the small vibrations will make the joint fail!

happend on my Diablotin/B40 and my 24% Extra 300/Pletti 370/40

Now days I always use a piece of flexible silicon cable between motor and ESC.
