Bought mine from rc711.com
mostly because they were the first of my known webshops to get it in stock.
Seems to me that the asian stores are always ahead of Tower and other bigger western stores when new models are released. Maybe the factory that makes these for futaba is just down the street from them..
For you american guys its probably a lot easier to deal wih an american distributor, but for me, (norwegian) and other europeans, the prices and ridicolous slow speed of usps, makes asian shopping preferable.

rc711.com has the t8j heli version in stock, and the price is about the same as towers full price.

just a tip, in case someone's sick of waiting for tower..

It costs around 2500.- NOK shipped to my door from the bigger norwegian webshops. That equals 406,50 USD.

I payed 288 USD +30$ shipping from rc711. Norwegian taxes was 35$.
So all together i payed 353$

No huge saving here.

What ?
35$ is just a 11% of custom taxes that's nothing compared to the other EU countries where you have to pay the VAT + custom taxes which start at 20%
as far as I know the MVA in Norway is 25% so I don't understand why you just paid a 11%....

well.. to be honest.. i should have payed 25% vat of the original 288$ + a small customs fee. theres generally no customs taxes except vat on rc/hobbyequipment that private customers import to norway.
anyways, those asian webshops have their tricks to make it more pleasant for the customers..

usually the custom agent ask for the paypal invoice or bank statement.

spot on..
our stately post company does the tax calculations here. as long as the packs aren't to big, they "allways" accept whats been declared.
However. with huge packs from the us, or asia. like my hobbyking planes. They just dont believe it's worth so little. and ask for aditional proof of value. never had them ask for bank or paypal receipts, but they want a believable invoice
I guess you could still try with a "slightly down adjusted" invoice, but i feel busted and pay the full tax when this happens

Futaba 8J

Just got the new Futaba 8J tx in just now – wow, looks like something off the space shuttle, a lot of radio for $229 w/rx. Will take a little to get used to from my 8UAF, no antenna, lighter weight, tighter sticks and a lot of fancy new stuff. I just hope it works – I’ll test by this weekend if the rain ever stops - also found the FHSS 6 channel rx on ebay for $39 shipped.

Yeah, that'll be real tough getting used to no antenna
Best of luck with the new radio

Kind of like the no antenna thing - the stick are smooth and tight, which I like, but they are adjustable and i may loosen up a little. The one thing I didn't like is that it does not come with a rechargable battery or charger.

Yes indeed, smooth yet firm. No wobble on tight maneuvers. Mine's great out of the box.

Meh, consider that an advantage.. a 4 pack of lithium AA's in your flight pack as backup batteries that are good for the life of the radio and use Eneloops and now you have the best battery type for any Tx.

I like the Eneloops, too. I have had nothing but good service from them.
I was wondering, though, since the low battery warning on this radio goes off at 4.1 volts, about how much transmitting time would that give you?
Is there any way to figure this out or does the power use of the transmitter vary with the functions being used?
