I dusted off my New Moon last weekend and put in several fun flights. We shot some video. It's shaky, but you get the idea.

New Moon EDF (2 min 48 sec)

I took her out again last night and things didn't go quite as well. It was completely my fault. Actually, the damage isn't that bad, but it's time to build anew. She was looking rough.

Any other New Moons taking shape?

EPP New Moonjet Build

came across this model when ordering some cores from FlyingFoam.

Going with EPP for the fuse and covered balsa for the tail. ordered a cheap 55mm uxcell on 4cell.

fun build so far, goes together quick...

Awesome! I haven't seen a New Moon in a long time. I have parts to build another. I should do that soon.
Looking forward to watching your progress with it.

added a couple Carbon rods to the wings, and burned out the foam for ducted fan installation

Reading all posts about New Moon EDF.
Will scratch build a slightly larger version
since I have 70 and 80 mm EDF units on
the shelf.
Thanks for pics!

A small amount of DIY redesign would
make a nice prop tractor motor plane!!

I thought about doing the same thing since I also have a few 64mm lying around(recovered from long destroyed planes), However at 22bucks shipped from Amazon for a 55mm, I figured I'd save a little effort

https://www.amazon.com/uxcell-Blades...ds=uxcell+55mm

Making it from EPP has made mine nearly indestructible!

Good deal.

I get a kick out of changing
designs and using what’s in
my shop.

Agree about EPP it is what I prefer.

Hotwiring is fun...sky is the limit.

Framed Up

framed up the control surfaces....Ruddervators seem huge, Any reason they were designed this large?

The tail surface size was originally based on a previous v-tail EDF I had designed and built. Since this design is somewhat short-coupled, I erred towards going larger. Even so, my prototype still had a hint of tail wag coming out of turns.

I made the control surfaces large simply because I wanted the model to have a wide speed range and be aerobatic at all speeds. Some of the most fun I had with my New Moon was with a lightweight setup using a 3S-1300. With that said, it would do pretty good tumbles with the 4S-2200 setup.

Set it up with dual rates and you should be fine. Use the listed throws for high rate and 60-70% for low. I used 30% expo too. But I do that on most of my models.

Ready to Stuff

yep, she definitely seems short-coupled after getting her together. EPP is pain to cover over, even with a spritz of 3m77. She's a little wrinkly but still looks better than raw foam and will be able to take beating. Ailerons glue hinged with welders.

At this stage, air frame and motor/fan weighs in at 10.1oz(257g)

Edit... pic with another recent build, BD5

Our club is doing a 150% build of this model. Started a new thread over in the Scratchbuilt EDFs.

Plans for New Moon

Hey, I found FlyRC pulled the plans for the New Moon off their website. Is it anywhere else? Where can I get a copy?
