How would an external (assuming you mean optical?) tach be more accurate?
Brushless motors are sychronous - if you know the line frequency, you know the RPM, surely?

I posted up 100% factual reply and there are many readers in here using the exact setup in the video. In fact the new version of that setup runs the HET 1W40 motor and its hitting 63-64K rpm at 2060W and getting close to 3kg thrust. When I get time I will video it but there are already quite a few out there flying right now so again, plenty of ppl who can verify the numbers.

That said, I am all for questioning methods and results.
If someone throws out numbers but isn't willing to stand by their methods, tools etc, then there's cause for consternation!

I'll say! that's a pretty draggy airframe -- on my RCL Panther, I ran several setups from around 550W to 1100W all on 4S, and the speed differences did not seem to be all that great.... but man, that ten blade 'whoosh' is sure sweet!

No trolling here. I'm just curious since there are other posts of yours that I wonder about. There is no need for you to get all bent out of shape and get defensive like your making up stuff.

What video, data log, cell count, voltage drop, amps , intake lip, exhaust tube, ESC and what motor & kv would that be to get the wemo fan to explode past your +70k range that you mentioned. Also what expertise do you have with EDF's and how has everyone benefited from it. All I know is that I've been doing EDF's since the days of round cells and brushed motors, so I probably don't know jack.

The hand launch panthers were always the best, I had one of the first Panthers, EPS foam, running with one of their first fans that had the wemo copy rotor in it and the original 3575Kv motor, it ran just on 900 watts and did 100mph, cheater hole open, they didnt have those plastic cheese graters with the first ones.
It was a great model once we sorted the factory CG mistake, it carried a 4000 4s pack easily, the video is still on youtube. It looks big and draggy but can actually move along pretty quick.
