ok guys what would be the best motor for this fan on 6S!!! I tried to run my new CyclonePower 2800kv on 6S and while I achieved 11lbs of thrust.... I damaged the magnets on the bell of the motor!

6S!! No wonder....

Even the 2500kv CP would be stressed on 6S....

I think a motor 2100-2200kv on 6S is about right. The eflite v32 and a HET come to mind.

Yeah I forgot I was going to run this motor on 5S not 6S.... and while I was amazed at how much thrust I achieved.... i feel really stupid for forgetting

Wow! Too bad you don't have a video of that. I bet it was humming!

it was pretty cool.... until i ran down the motor.... then the magnets started breaking apart

You sure you didn't burn the windings first?

It's hard to demag an outrunner.

Did they crack or demag?

Demag the magnets stay together but lose all magnetic properties but if they crack you can see them split

Also, with the magnetic field sizes that are present today people have been doing 11lbs of thrust at around 3 - 4000watts with 90mm fans, it would take and fairly larger amount of watts do that the same at 70mm.

How long did you run the test?

I run a TJ70/ DS30 Rotor/ Ice100 Lite/ Arc 28/58/1 on 5s and 6s...no problems at all ...and the 28/58/1 is a 3180Kv motor...It's all got to do with the Fan..The TJ line of Fans are just amazing...Lots of 70mm Fans don't have a built in Heat sink..Big Difference...Take one of Tam's set-ups for the foam Habu...It has the E-Flite 3600Kv motor and he runs it on 5S steady..If you put that motor in a different Shroud with no heat-sink...break out the marshmallows & wieners..BBQ

Plenty of guys run my Extreme CNC alloy housing with the ARC2858-1 and wemo rotor at 1900 watts / 6s producing 2.5kg+ thrust and hammer the things all day long, the housings are about the most efficient around when it comes to heat extraction, and very affordable.

I am now running the new HET 1W40 in the same fan, 6s is pulling 2060W and producing around 5K rpm more than the ARC motor does!! Close to 3kg thrust, will be testing it this weekend now I have some time to swap motors around in my test fan. I think this new motor would be hot on 5s with the CS10 rotor in an alloy housing. Not sure I would trust it in a plastic housing at this power level.

I got the F-15 ducting work and tests done.....

Rounding off the inlets made ZERO difference. Exact same thrust before and after.
Unfortunately if you do this first then you can't test a difference AFTER opening the exit ducts.....
I note the Freewing Su-35 has blunt, sharp inlet duct openings (same as the F-15). So it seems Freewing (who seem to test things at least somewhat well) don't think the inlet duct edges matter at all.
My, not totally conclusive, tests suggest that too.....

Opening the exhaust ducts gave increases.
I did it in gradual stages, to see if I could discern any benefits.... and there were gains at every stage of opening them larger!
It went from the sub 0.6Kg, up to 0.98 Kg by the time I got them as open as they can be..... this is from a 1.35Kg (stabilised) CS10 setup. So that is a big improvement, but still well short of acceptable really!!

Pic1) The inlets are rounded... hard to discern that in the pics, but they are. I sanded them with glass paper.

Pic2) The exhausts in this pic are almost totally opened out. The next step made only a fractional difference as there was really nothing left to gain. They look as if there is a bit left, but the 'fluffy edge' of the sanded foam is just making that look like that.

The only way to get MORE exhaust area is to cut off the nozzles!!
I am humming and harring over that, but pretty certainly will do that.... then test with them off, which should give another 2mm of diameter or so. Based on the gains so far, I think they need close to 2mm more diameter each.
A larger opening can be re-tuned to be smaller, so that is ok too. But I will investigate making up thrust vectoring nozzles (larger diam) (make the "ball" assembly using a ping pong ball? lol) to put back to finish it off - or otherwise just plain larger nozzles.

The aim is to persevere until at least 1.2 Kg of the 1.35Kg 'base' thrust is found! Cutting of fthe nozzles might jump it right into that area anyway!
Then worry about tuning it for best real flight operation later on. eg might need some reduction then.
