100" Kinetic DP in Museum!

The Deutsches Museum contacted me this winter to see about putting a Kinetic on display in their Museum of Flight. I got a note yesterday that it is now on permanent display with a short text. The text is in German... See attached.

I hope this is as rewarding to everyone who has contributed to the project as it is for me. Thank you Steven Seim, Dirk Pflug, and Thomas Pils and congrats to you!

Thanks to Paul Gauci for use of the time lapse photo (I have asked that the text be modified to give credit).

Spencer

Ah, they've got it hung up now, eh? Excellent! Deserves to be there. They have some truly great items there.

I saw it in their workshops earlier in the year and wondered if it was going to be an exhibit or if was for one of the staff.

On a related note, I can't recommend that place highly enough. Great exhibits, nice people and an easy train ride from central Munich. All good.

The translated text reads.. Not sure why the Construction line translates to "Plastic construction". Maybe it's supposed to be "composite" or something.

Kinetic model glider 100 DP

The glider Kinetic 100 DP is the fastest
Glider in the world. Was constructed in an identical model
on 2 February 2011 an (unofficial) world record with a
Speed of 748 km / h set up.

The Kinetic is a remote-controlled
Model without engine speed, for the
was constructed, new, not previously flown
Flight speeds away. These are the
Combination of different technologies such as the
Carbon fiber composite construction, the numerical
Flow simulation and practical experience in
Maximum flight allows. This is achieved
high speed flight with a special flight technique
"Dynamic Soaring" (engl. Dynamic Soaring) in
Slope lift.

Spencer, that is really awesome.

BTW, FRP construction is often refereed to as a fiber reinforced plastic in the manufacturing industry. In the truest sense of the word, from a manufacturing perspective, all the polymers used in composite construction are plastics. It's also very common to hear composite constructed molds referred to as plastic molds in instructional material, trade journals, etc.

Because the German term "Kunststoff" translates into English as "plastic." On-line translators just can't know these nuances.

Congrats Spencer! Is it indeed in the Deutsches Museum in Munich or is it at the Wasserkuppe museum?

So what should it translate to? "Composite"? Or just is no translation for the term?

The CFK means carbon-fiber composite.

Impressive to have a US plane in a German flight museum. The Germans do sailplanes like no one else.

Indeed, CFK is an acronym for Carbon Faser verstärkter Kunststoff. "Kunst" in this case refers to "künstlich" meaning artificial, and Stoff means fabric or matter in general.
Enough German! -- Is that a copy of Ralf Decker's telescoping wing F3B plane sharing airspace with Spencer's Kinetic?

Would that a US museum were smart enough to exhibit your fantastic glider.

It belongs in the Smithsonian, but recognition is great anyway and nobody appreciates gliders and sailplanes more than the Germans.

Congratulations.
