IIRC the SR-71 engine intake 'cones' adjust forward/aft due to the airflows at mach speeds.I would be surprised if that isn't the reason for the thrust angle and also the 'toe in' of the engine intakes.

Ah okay - I was hoping for at least three metres. There was mention of about 3.5 metres a while back. But 2.8 metres will do.

A couple more to throw into the mix, how about a 1800mm span Avro Vulcan or a slightly smaller Gloster Javelin?

The F14 would be good, as long as the spar / swing system could be proven out. If you do get somewhere near doing submarines, a Russian Typhoon or Alfa would be great
