The first flight was on 2200mah 20C batteries, I was only hitting about 50amps. It wasn't anywhere near 12lbs. lol
I was thinking about 900 kv motor though, I like the low amp draw and smaller battery packs.
Has anyone tried the ARC 36-55-3 950kv on 12S ?

here are some numbers i got this morning.

4400 6s 30c
CS9012 / flyfly 1500kv outrunner
100a hw platinum

1500-1450w @ 67amps.

does that seem about right? will it launch from my hands? lol it feels like it want to rip out of my grip.

btw thanks nick its obviously a basic reliable setup to get started. everything was barely warm. sounds great too!

also , the manual states that adding NACA ducts would improve thrust up to 100g. im thinking of doing it but i dont know.

also should i set esc to med/high timing or low?

i hear a whistling sound (coming from motor it seems) that goes with throttle input. ive heard that from my 30cc sbach 342 eflite 160 motor. is that normal?

Ordered 1 90mm 12 blade from HK on the 15th Oct 2012 and delivered yesterday.
They are still shipping thew soft, weak, lighter fans and shrouds! Not very pleased...
For those wanting a good one made of stronger material, Ming from X-flight has them and the three I bought from him recently were fine.

How about replacement blades sets from x-flight? Are those harder than HK or not?
BTW Ming windrider is one outfit and x-Flight is another one in Hong Kong.

Out of Stock..... that is a lower end of output that can get. It will pretty surely be due to that battery.
Even a 'weakish' flying plane will feel like it wants to leap out of your grip when testing. 1400/1500Watts will be a bit anaemic. That might even struggle for a hand lauch - at least to have a very safe one. It won't have the pulling power to accelerate to flying speed very quickly, so it will drop X amount..... and may, or may not, hit the ground before flying! LOL
So I would want it to be 'thrown well' by someone else.....

If you had a 5000mAH 65C sort of thing, it should go up to more like 1700/1800 watts area.... at least.

So, I don't think it WON'T fly..... it will just not have power to spare.
If it was taking off from a hard runway, it would fly fine, but would need a fair roll out distance.... which is fine if you want it to be scale-like anyway.

well guess what? it flew right out of my girlfriends wimpy toss against the wind LOL. although it did take some time to get up to speed but it was no harder than my sapac euro. im charging for the next run. posting video tonight. shes a photographer so it should come out pretty good..

im curious about my esc temperature as i cant reach it. its quite cool outside so im sure its fine.

the heli guys are looking at me like im crazy because im the only lifting body out here (its windy and i believe that aided in hand launch)

Ya Out of Stock, you should be getting between 75-85a and 1700-1900w, depending on timing and battery. So it's probably battery problem. What timing are you running your esc @. Also heat on the esc shouldn't be to much of a problem if it has adequate air flow, as my esc temp on that setup is warm. Also what size connector are you using 4mm, 5mm, 6mm?

I ordered the replacement blade a couple of days ago, I will report back when it arrives.
