If the system (blades/count etc) is not optimised as it is - due to supposedly being a mad/scaled down clone of a Stu? - then this fan itself might even perform better at 11, 10, or 9 blades. With one of those being the true optimal. With required KV etc to suit that too.
You could just remove how many baldes you want and space it out with bubble-gum or something.....

Bubble-gum.....LOL

10, 9, and 8 blade combo are very easy to do by just putting a blank (hub part but with no blade) in the place where a full blade would be.

11 blades would be more work. You`d need to make 10 "shims" that would have the shape of the hub part of the blade and be the right thickness (1/10th of a standard blade hub) to take up the slack. I know the stock blades have a tapered hub section, but the shims would only be about .030" each, so I don`t think taper would be an issue.

But if it was a very good fan with 11 blades, the shims could be lazer cut from the right material and thickness, and would be very cheap if large quantities were made.

Also shim shims could be made from lots of very thin sizes so that they could be used to fine tune any unwanted space.

Man, that`s a great idea! Does anyone have cheap access to a lazer cutter? Evenly spaced blades would look, and probably perform better than just leaving out blades.

Here`s my new CS-90-10. Runs smooth as silk. Didn`t need any ballancing 1200kv, does 80a on 8s, about 2.3kw.

Jeez.... "Leaving out blades and putting in a blank" is worse than using bubble-gum!!! LOL
Try and balance that !

Oh I see.... 10, 9 and 8... ok.... of course works out balanced fine.
Airflow???? Hard to know if it would have some weirdo 'vortex'/turbulence thing going on.
It might even make some amazingly great new sound too!!

"Flat shims"... as far as I can think they should work fine anyway.
Icy-pole sticks....... (They're free AND you got to have an icy-pole too!)

Maybe we should put in a blank and also add the bubble-gum just for extra insurance.

I think Mark/ExtremeRC are 'bonding' CS12 blades with that top secret bubblegum idea! But we need to work out the brand and the flavour used!

How many chews is probably a key factor too.

I guess I`ll look into making up some shim kits that would have the sizes needed for the various blade counts. Liability won`t be a factor, because I`ll just sell them as "wind chime kits" or something like that. If some fool wants to put them in a rotor hub, that`s his problem.

I am running the Zippy 5800mah 6S 30C + a Zippy 1S 30C 6200mah to make 7S. The little 4mm bullet connectors built into the 1S pack were soldered to give better contact and the standard connector replaced with 5.5mm bullet connectors like all my 6S packs. Having the 5.5mm connectors makes it easy to run batteries in series. The balance is better without the extra battery but it is manageable with a little extra elevator throw.
Cheers Eric

Nice!
Great way to fine tune the AMP draw for motors that are pushed too far with all 12 blades.
Keep the new ideas coming!
Cheers Eric

I was thinking of doing the same thing with the 120mm fan taking it down to 6 blades for higher KV motors. I have some busted blade roots I was going to sand down smooth. Did you really run that Lee?

Check X flight for some shims or spaces without blades
