Aileron question
I was re-vamping an old plane and had some foam ailerons left over from a different plane. They are quite a bit bigger then my old ones and WOULD work great except one problem, they hang low.
Now I'm thinking that either this will created a "damn" of air and cause drag or it will create a "truck bed" type effect where the air will circulate and provide a surface for the remaining airflow to slide right over. What do you guys think? |

The way you have it will work fine as long as it's not to deep, say 1/8 in. You'll get smooth airflow. Having the ail thinner than the wing will cause a lot of aerodynamic drag comparatively, more like your truckbed turbulance.

Judging from a recent experience... if they stick down very much it will fly like you have a some 'flap' dialed in.
Better to have a smooth transition, if possible, though what you have will certainly 'work' if it's not a ridiculous amount lower. All depends on the plane and how you fly it, whether your results will be acceptable, to be honest. |

It probably won't matter much on the scale we're talking about, but why not just remove the extra material or streamline the lower front?
