Aussie War Birds

G'day lads and ladettes.
This thread is dedicated to customised models of Aussie War Birds.
I don't expect it to be BIG, but it will hopefully act as a resource for anyone hoping to customise their models as Aussie War Birds.

Just to get things started, the attached photos are of my FMS 1400mm P40 which I customised as Wing Commander Geoff Atherton's Cleopatra III. Geoff flew this ACFT when he was CO of 80 SQN RAAF in the final year of the War in the SW Pacific.

Hobby King P40N as Flying Officer Gordon White's "Stormy Weather

Here are a couple of pics showing the customisation of this model to another RAAF War Bird.

My Greatest resource for images of these ACFT has been Gordon Birkett's web site, ADF Serials.
Gordon himself has been very helpful and even provided contact info for the 78 SQn Association. The administrator provided me with additional images of the ACFT and the men during the war which helped me greatly with the customisation.

Hey Rob. I have also been doing some work on a FMS Spitfire.

I have decided to represent Mk XVI TB 863 which is owned by Temora Aviation Museum. VH-TAM.

I am now up for replacing a prop.

looks awesome!

Seeing as the rebuild/fpv maiden went so well with my Durafly Spitty, and it blowing a gale outside, I thought I'd treat the old dear to a bit of a repaint.
Keep in mind this plane was given to me some time ago rather smashed.
I rebuilt her, then I smashed it.
Rebuilt again, mate of mine nosed her in....
Sooo... while waiting for an answer on the suitability of the Sonic/Lander retracts to replace the weak ones in the 1700mm HK P40N, I thought I'd finally put the pieces together, remaidened her LOS last week, flew surprisingly nicely, so slapped some fpv gear in her, and really, really enjoyed her!
Here's the fpv maiden vid, B&W nostalgic edit, fpv goggles on from take-off to landing....

I've never scale modded a plane before (besides teenage years with tissue n' dope- yes, only balsa plane building ), so I thought I may as well do it to honour of one of our WWII aces, Wing Commander Clive R Caldwell.
He flew a VIII, A58-484 (British serial JG543) at Morotai in March 1945; one of three Spitfire MkVIII's allocated to Clive R Caldwell. Below the cockpit was a Group Captain rank pennant and a scoreboard indicating aerial victories against German, Italian and Japanese aircraft.

Not quite to scale, I'm painting the underside off-white (should be light sky blue), topsides olive green (originally dark earth & foilage green, quite close colours), and I have requested the decals from Callie Graphics.

Thus far the underside is painted...

Thanks Jeff, this is an ACFT which is just BEGGING for someone to customise a model as.
Also, thanks to all who have joined the thread.
Lets get our models customised and on show here.
there are plenty of threads on this forum showing fantastic custom jobs of American and Britt warbirds, time to get our Aussie brand on some of these great kits which have come out and are yet to be released.
good work men.
