Data

Motrolfly 4315-500kv

I have some test data with my new Motrolfly 4315-500kv (recorded today). Equipments used were Castle ICE 2 HV 80, Gens ACE 5s-3300 25C (470g), Gens ACE 6s-2200 25C (346g), APC 15x8, Aurora 9 w/ Optima 6 receiver.

a) On 5s, 19.6 V x 52 A = 1019 W, 149 oz static thrust on a fresh pack
.............18.4 V x 43 A = 791 W, 135 oz static thrust on a tired pack

b) On 6s, 23.0 V x 61 A = 1403 W, 180 oz static thrust on a fresh pack
.............21.3 V x 55 A = 1172 W, 165 oz static thrust on a tired pack.

After the test, I ran it on 6s for at least 20s. The rotor was slightly warm, and the stator was just warm (115F or so). I highly recommend this 4315-500kv for 3D planes (55" - 60") such as SC 57", Slick 59", EF Edge 60" on 6s. Ken told me that it should be able to handle 75A.

Photos of the motor and weight are below.

about the same weight of the torque...
looks good and performance too.

Let me be honest with you I'm looking for a 6 cells motor, weight around 9-9.5 oz and same size of the torque what do you think?

This 4315-500kv (305g) actually weighs 1.38 oz less than the Torque (344g). Someone shared me a photo of the Torque on a scale.

I thought about getting the Torque, but I stopped since this one is lighter and runs cool on 6s with 15x8 prop (at least 1400w).

So yes, go for it. $106.95 without bullet connector. Very good price, IMO.

Same mounting holes as the mount of the Torque 4016, Scorpion S4020, Hacker A50.

A bit shorter so you might need spacer. I recommend something wide and light. Wood spacers from 3DHS planes work pretty well (4 spacers = 5g)

So this motor will support a few different ships and like Freddy I prefer to stay 6s. Isn't the 59 inch slick and the 57 SC designed around 4s power ?

Well,

There's nothing wrong with having more than enough power. The biggest problem is weight.

On 3DHS website, the Torque 4016-500 is the recommended motor for the Slick and SC on 6s. The 4315-500 should be better since it's 1.38 oz lighter and run cooler. With the Motrolfly on 6s-2200, my SC weighs 4.6 lbs, well within the recommended weight of the SC (4.5 - 5.5 lbs). Even with 6s-2500, it's still only 4.75 lbs.

If you prefer 4s power level on Slick and SC (~1000 - 1100W), run the 4315-500 on 5s with 15x8. Similar power and A LOT cooler. My 4s motor Hacker A40-10s was hot after each flight whereas the Motrolfly was barely warm after running continuous at WOT (40-50s duration) on 5s-3300.

There is a different Kv suited for each cell count on this motor. 4s, 5s, 6s, and even 8s.

So far, I've known of 3 motors that I could run both 5s and 6s with the same 15x8 prop on the Slick 59" and SC 57". I am lazy to change prop although it only take 10s.

a) Motrolfly 4315-500 kv
b) Torque 4016-500 kv
c) Hyperion Z4020-16 505kv

The Hyperion and the Torque look very similar (spec, kv, dimension, design, ...), and they both weigh very close (344g mount & adaptor included).

The Motrolfly is lighter and runs cooler on 6s, 1400w with 15x8 and still plenty of head room to push. 61A is way below what it could handle (75A).

The Hacker A40-10L 500kv, same KV and weight as the Motrolfly (306g mount & adaptor included), but it doesn't look as strong (6mm prop shaft, smaller mount), IMO. The most important is that it cant be run on both 5s and 6s using the same 15x8 prop. Not enough power on 5s for 3D, 897w on 5s and 1254w on 6s. Its lower power probably due to longer and smaller diameter motor design. The larger diameter design seems to draw more power, generate more thrust, and run cooler. If switching from 6s (15x8 prop) to 5s, you might have to prop up 1" on this motor.

After the test, I also thought that 8s was possible. I believe that this motor could easily handle 1500+ W since it was not even warm at 1400 W after running more than 20s at WOT (65 F ambient). With the current weather and temp, I think the motor might be COLD after a hard flight.

Losi is flying his Slick 59" with the 4315-715kv version on 4s-4000 with 15x7 and 15x8 prop. About 1300w and the 715kv is still cool.

Totally Ken.. I do understand. My biggest thing like everyone else is not to go out and purchase more battery packs. If I can run your motor on 6s and still get the same performance factor then I am a happy camper. I will be getting either the 57SC or 59 inch slick in the future and would prefer to run them on 6s.

Not like the 60" Edge that need larger packs, been flying my SC 57" with Gens ACE 6s-2200, 15x8 prop and ICE 75 (4.6 lbs AUW).
Only going vertical slower than a Rocket. Doesn't matter how hard I push, nothing gets warm. On the other hand, I had to baby sit both the motor and ESC (A40-10s and ICE 75, 1050W) when I was flying 4s-3800. About 300-400w less in power and ran quite HOT. Now I just dont care. Put back 1600-1700 mah into the 6s-2200 after a 7 min flight (hover, rolling harrier, ...). Thinking of getting the Gens ACE 6s-2500, and the AUW would be 4.75 lbs (recommended from 3DHS is 4.5 - 5.5 lbs). However, I still kind of like it the way it is now, very light (4.6 lbs) and crazy power.

I have one on my 60'' Extreme FLight Edge.. Love it.. Awesome power.. I flew today for 6 min came down and checked it.. Still had 46% of battery.. According to the batt checker..

Thanks KEN for all your hard work!!
