Beautiful ship, and still deadly in competition if flown right.

Got it from one of my flying buddies for a more than reasonable price. He had it partially completed but is now flying mouldies.

Looks great. I was fortunate enough to get a kit this summer. Will be building it this winter. Can't wait!

Flew one for a few years till I became a sloper. Great flying sailplane with a good speed range. Enjoy!

I have a Sapphire which used to be one of my primary contest planes. It flies great at just under 64 oz. It will compete with moldies in the right hands. Great acquisition !

It flies great...... already had a few 1000 point rounds flying against the vaunted RED mouldies.
If the weather is reasonable and the pilot is on his game the Sapphire can and will do well.

The horizontal stabs are not original Sapphire; they are aftermarket. I've heard rumors that the third-party stabs have a tendency to blow up under the stress of a hard launch. Can anyone substantiate/refute this rumor?

I believe it was the C/F joiner rods that would fail, the later versions do not use them

I've been flying a Sapphire fuse with the CF tail joiners in contests for a couple years and had no trouble with the tails to date. Probably worth inspecting them periodically, under magnification, for cracks.
