About the Dumbest Thing I have Seen Yet - Freedom of Speech....or not

If you can believe this in a City that was founded as a Mission.

They want to charge a couple to have Bible studies in their home.

Where is the freedom of religion and the right to assemble?

Interesting to say the least.

I was 100% in agreement with you until I read this part...

Quote:
“The Fromm case further involves regular meetings on Sunday mornings and Thursday afternoons with up to 50 people, with impacts on the residential neighborhood on street access and parking,” City Attorney Omar Sandoval said.
Now, if that's really factual that they have 50 people regularly meeting once a week at their house --especially if their house is a typical suburb 1500-2000 squre-foot building with a tiny yard sitting in a small street-- and neighbors are constantly being inconvenienced by parked cars or something... yeah perhaps they should be encouraged to move to a different venue or split-up their group?

I disagree with legal action taken by the city, however. And apparently neighbors are in support of their having this gathering.

I would like to know more.

But yeah, if this were just 2-10 or so people meeting weekly for a Bible study and this legal action was levied against them, I'd be with them 100%.

There's more than what this article describes I suspect.

so then.......

“a regular gathering of more than three people”.

4 guys every Fri or Sat night drinking beer (whatever) would be called a bar?

Makes me wonder if Amway and Tupperware, etc. have the same scrutiny? Or perhaps political block parties....and the list goes on.

Sounds like they have a real dick for a neighbor. Hope it gets resolved in their favor, because that's way overreaching...

Someone probably said the name of Jesus out loud.
Unless uttered as a curse it drives some people to behave very irrationally.

I know what you mean - believing in magical, invisible supernatural beings is so rational.

Doesn't matter that the city was founded on a mission - a bike club - a gun runners hidy hole or whatever.

If it's an illegal gathering - them's the rules

And this is the Law - Amendment 1 of the Constitution

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Self-explanatory.

So all those anti establishment mosque supporters on the 9/11 site were 'OK' with you then

And of course, those that are facing 6 months to a year for shouting down the Jewish speaker the other day

Thought not
