Senior Palestinian official: UN bid is only alternative to violence

Now, it's threats! Yes, the peaceloving "Palestinians"...do what we want, or else. The refrain of peacelovers everywhere.

Quote:
Senior Palestinian negotiator Nabil Shaath said Wednesday that the Palestinians' statehood bid at the United Nations is the only alternative to violence, stressing that the UN move will give the Palestinians the chance to promote their rights.
Sure, give them this and they'll stop slaughtering Jews. Yeah, right. I have a bridge to sell you.

Another 'slant' on what is a major embarrassment (and shameful change of policy) for the USA - Israel and the USA are playing a dangerous game of brinkmanship and Obama's U turn on this one is a major screw up!

Israel has a feckless leader who was castigated by BO just a year ago for his feckless leadership but when a real decision is afoot, as usual the USA and Israel close ranks!

Well done - supports everything Al Quaeda accuse the USA of - brilliant (idiocy)!

Isn't that exactly what Israel says to the Palestinians? ''Let us expand into the territory your families have lived on for generations, and you think is yours, or else?

If Israel was to withdraw to the 1967 borders, as most of the world has been telling them to do for decades, that would go some way to stop the radicals on either side from terrorising each other.

Here is today's report on radical Israeli settler violence:

Does anybody agree that the Palestinians only have 2 options; the UN bid or violence?

Perhaps you are talking about the 1967 war which officially started when Israel attacked Egypt, but which really started when Israel attacked Syria in 1965?

The war was between Israel and it's neighbours, not Israel and the Palestinians. Even if Israel's neighbours had started the war, why should the Palestinians be the ones who lose out? See if you can work that one out for yourself.

That's pretty simple.

It's not about fairness; it's about logistics.

A Palestinian state can be used by those "neighbors" as a basis for a military assault on Israel.

A comprehensive peace treaty can help alleviate such concerns.

Not at all - and of course your 'when should they stop beating their wives' proposition is a little disengenuous!

This isn't a serious attempt to get UN ratification - it's a message to the world and it's worked!

Your 'wife beating question' analogy is not appropriate; my question is not disingenuous.

The statement came directly from a Palestinian politician/diplomat.

OK - well I'm sure we all know the back story to this - the lead up!

Netanyahu is ticked and Israel is embarrassed by Obama

Netanyahu speaks at length to the USA - Hillary then 'pontificates' publically a couple of weeks back

Obama steps up to the plate and delivers the official line to appease Israel

Abbas see's the usual Israeli intransigence backed by the USA and thinks, to heck with this game of nothing and goes to the UN

The world then leaps aboard the Palestinian train to somewhere given that the Israeli train is stuck in a goods shed going nowhere!

Not too difficult. The Land Israel got was taken from those neighbors after wars with those nations, not the Palestinians. Palestinians need to honor the laws of the nations that they live in just like they did when they were Syrians, Jordanians, Egyptians and Brits. Simple enough for ya?

In the Palestinian mindset they only have two options.

1 UN Bid then Violence.
2 Violence and no Bid.

So I guess there really is only 1 option after all.
