Thanks for explaining my comment re BEC's vs ESC/BEC's !

That was what I was referring to.

But a bad winding sounds like it was the culprit.

Throwing Caution to the wind ,so to speak ,
I managed to TRASH my Twins today in gusty condits.
The Pull out was about 4" TOO LOW ! sigh ...

Oh man, sorry about your luck. I always try to look at my bad crashes as an opportunity to get something new. I too "Love my Twins". When I crash mine I will build another one. The kids love to watch my parachute men drop.

I am looking forward to getting my QTR VTOL going. I attend a couple of RC fly-ins where we play games such as egg drop to target, carrier landing on tables, and spot landings for points. I don't think any of our group has anything like it. I would probably be disqualified but it would be entertaining. I have a bomb bay door in mine as well as a ramp door. How are you doing on your build?

The Twins wil have to wait, but only needs a Fuse.

Business has gotten in the way of building the QTR lately.

I did put better wheels on the LG recently and plan to mount the motors maybe even today.
Then it will be Solder TIme for all the wires going to and from.

And a Final angle check before gluing the CF Horns to the Rotating motor swivel shafts.

As far as bomb bay doors - NO plans for them.
I will just be happy to get it to Hover stablely and then transition to a from Foward flight.
No kids to impress around here.

Do you have the SW working on your build yet ?

Looks good. Looks like it is yawing to the right and pitching back.

Try to trim that out with the TX. Try some Expo to make it less sensitive.

Well EVERYthing has come to a screetching HALT !

I got NEWS today !!! ( at least for me )

I got an acceptable OFFER for my home in the Northwest.

I will be moving in a month, to Indiana. ( near the Grand kids )

So, if you are on the fence about any of my stuff,
ya better make a decision NOW !

Northwest Cutout Service is MOVING !
We will be moving to the Indianapolis area at the end of September,
close to the Grand Kids.
All orders received BEFORE September 15 will be honored
depending on stock availability.

However, all operations will be closed at that time.
We intend to reopen as soon as possible after relocation.
We very much appreciate all the business you have afforded us,

Thank you very much.

When we reopen we will make an announcement here as well as RCGroups.

Best regards

Okay, I've been lurking and slowly re-adjusting my VTOL plans inside my head. Finally found some time to get things rolling with my TTRT (tricopter tilt rotor twins). Using a cheap 50mm EDF - should be great for VTOL pitch control. The main wing will tilt 90 degrees with two motors on each side. Basic principal is this:

VTOL mode:
similar to a tricopter, but ailerons will be yaw control

Forward flight:
EDF is off, elevator surface does pitch control
Motors are used for yaw
Aileron surfaces do roll control
gyros are off / disabled

Now with all that said does anyone have code that would make this beast fly?

you need the CG to be behind the rotors while in the hover, which means it either has to be behind the pivot point of the wing or the rotors must be on underslung nacelles. Another option would be to increase the horizontal stab size so that the CG can be moved further back. there might be some issues with the propwash from the main rotors hitting the tail through conversion, which a bigger tail will make worse. Perhaps a T tail or a large V tail might mitigate that a bit?

You need to check out Leadfeathers F-35 VTOL. The code he's worked out with (I think his username is) Cass2535 looks to be right up your ally, or very near it.

My project is slowly coming along. I think if I elongate the motor mounts that would help get the CG forward in forward flight mode without sacrificing a decent CG for hover mode.

Also I need a bigger servo for wing tilt. The HS-85MG in there now has tons of slop in the gears and struggles with the motors off.
